Since everybody is writing about their experience with the police I will add my two cents. I have met policemen and women who were the most empathetic people you can imagine and I have met policemen and women who were the most misanthropic who shouldn't be anywhere near a gun and have the power to take away your freedom, even temporarily, and it's the latter group who makes the job of the former group more difficult.
When I was eighteen years old I was celebrating the Fourth Of July on Daytona Beach with some friends. I was taking penicillin for an ear infection. I also happened to be at a part of the beach that was under surveillance for drugs, especially quaaludes. When I went to take the penicillin pill which I had in a vial with some vitamins a policeman stopped me and arrested me for possession of a controlled substance. I tried to tell him it was penicillin to no avail. I was taken to a holding cell and charged with a third degree felony. I eventually was bailed out by my mom and a family friend who put up the money for the bond. The charges were dropped and my record was expunged and I successfully sued for false arrest, false imprisonment, and malicious prosecution...
Fast forward about twenty years. I was driving with my mom and absent mindedly ran a red light. My mom was already eighty years old and an amputee... The damage to my car and the other driver's car was huge. Both had to be towed. Thankfully there were no serious injuries but my mom had some abrasions on her arm so they took her to the emergency room as a precaution given her advanced age. The policewoman drove me to the hospital and waited to we made sure mom was ok and released.
So I have seen both sides. Cops are like everybody else, but they should be held to a higher standard because have they guns and the power to arrest...

Thankfully I wasn't strip searched but getting arrested on a public beach is humiliating.

But a lot of that time was spent with the bondsman. I was glad that they didn't take me to the county jail which is what happens if you're not immediately bailed out.

I said there were cops like Officer Friendly and the Bad Lieutenant and the latter make it bad for the former.
If anybody has a right to hate cops it's me. If my mom didn't have a friend who could post the $1,000.00 on the $10,000.00 bond I would have been taken to the County Jail, where I would have been thrown in with the general population and possibly beat up if not raped. I also had to worry about how easy it would have been for the cops to replace the penicillin they took from me with a controlled substance to cover their a--es until my attorney assured me we would deal with it when the time comes...

realize here is the amount of rules breaking by the police force, then there are folks who feels the expression of anger on the police is too much and feels sympathetic toward them, nothing wrong with that excerpt one sets trumps the other, why(?) because abusive of power by the police force has spiral out of hand and could not be controlled.
Here's an example, take the Cambridge incident for instance, the police union came out in support of Sgt. Crowley even though most of them knew he was wrong, where were the good cops then(?) that could have stand for what they believe is the truth...Where???
This could have been the perfect time for a good cop to step out......
