You know I thought I figured out why Sarah Palin just rambles on and on in her speeches.
It may be that her speech writers are not using any punctuation. Either that or maybe she doesn't know what a period or comma does. She doesn't stop in between sentences, thoughts, or topics. She doesn't even pause for applause (or boos).

So during her farewell speech just now, I was listening very carefully trying to make out what she was saying. Guessing where one sentence or thought ended and another began. But even still I was only able to make out bits and pieces of it. God this and freedom that. And Alaska and Rolls up their sleeves, something, something.

When the speech was over, CNN's Don Lemon tried to comment on the highlights of her speech but was only able to recite the last sentence of the speech.

The rest was embarrassingly non-sensical. It might have even been her worst speech to date as she even screwed up naming her children I think.

How does someone with such poor public speaking skills make it anywhere into politics? I mean. Fine if we have to endure some extreme rightwinger but at least give us someone who we can understand.

1. Believe me,
no speechwriter wrote this. This is pure Sarah.

And if you think it sounds bad, you ought to try reading a transcript sometime.

8. Perhaps there should be an "average american" translating so I can watch with subtitles on.
I thought I was an average american less the kids but for some reason I don't speak the language of the sarah.

coherent thought process.

7. I don't think she does much reading
and therefore doesn't know how to comprehend the written word. I think she honestly believes that this sort of muddled garbage is what is political speech.

12. Useful idiot
She wouldn't have sense enough to question what was going on around her, so the people who represented powerful interests got her installed in that office. I bet those same people were as surprised as we were that McAnus chose her as his VP running mate.

Another possibility: the old adage, 'it's not who ya know, it's who ya blow,' applies.

You just kick the political machine into high gear. It's been done before--look at Warren G. Harding as an example.

13. I think it is more than....
just a lack of punctuation. ee cummings wrote without punctuation or capitalization and managed to produce a body of work that people consider to be great.

Palin just babbles. I heard a commentator refer to it as "word salad." No common thread, no cohesive remarks and in the speech when she announced her resignation a lot of hyperventilation which didn't help anything.

The woman is a ditz. She was nominated by McCain who seemed to feel that Hillary Clinton supporters would rush to vote for him if he ran with a woman. Any woman, and that somehow no one would notice the difference. Once they had Palin they kept her tightly muzzled and tried to keep her from appearing on political shows. They could not hide, though, no matter how hard they tried, that she was ignorant of foreign policy, economics, domestic policies or anything except how to take federal money, waste it and lie about it.

The media found itself a new chew toy, and Palin grated increasingly, and still does, on the nerves of the population at large. Can she go away now and shut up? Please?

15. It's 100% sound... not bites, but party snacks...
It's like the party mix of political speeches. One bite's Chex, one bite's a little pretzel, one bite is shredded coconut, one bite's a peanut, one bite's an M&M, one bite's a little bit of dried apple, one bite's a wasabi pea, one bite's a cashew, one bite's a little cheese cracker, one bite's a raisin, one bite's a pistachio...

....all great tastes, just not tasting great together in that order.

17. She doesn't stop in between sentences
Edited on Sun Jul-26-09 08:35 PM by ashling
Let us take a minute to consider the usage of in between and in-between

She doesn't stop in between sentences: If she would stop in, we could have a beer between sentences. Joe the Plumber would stop in if HE were in town!

She doesn't stop in-between sentences: She doesn't know how to use punctuation

18. As long as she hits a platitude
or red meat talking point every once in a while, it doesn't register on winger nation that the spackle inbetween is jabberwocky. They're conditioned for bullet point "thinking" by Fox and Rush, so what Sarah does isn't so odd.

19. I think you're on to something there, Charlie.
I see a lot of projection onto her by the unthinking and anti-intellectual crowd and as long as she gets a zinger in now and then, they're happy. They glom onto that little tidbit that resonates with them and don't look further to see that there is nothing there -- she's a prop for the ultra-RW. The Empress has no clothes.
