hey mods, can we change it to where we can see recs and unrecs? |
|
hate to say it, but like Dailykos, I'm sick of this anonymous unrec bs. If I don't like something I generally just ignore it, hate to give trolls traffic and all, but when decent, important threads get unrec'd it infuriates me.

congress looking at curbing drug ads on tv. It is good that they are looking into it, curbs costs and stops people from self diagnosing. I have seen a few healthcare threads including my own get unrec'd for no good reason.

17. Yes, I would Unrecommend that thread. |
|
You envision a different standard for Recommending a thread than I do.
I don't think a thread that simply throws a link up and says "hey, this is good" should appear on the Greatest page or be recommended.
You think Recommend is the default vote, and I think Unrecommend is the default vote. There are a lot more threads that don't deserve to be on the Greatest Page than threads that do.

Your decision rule. if others are doing the same thing, does explain why there are so many <0 threads if others agree.

I unrecommend threads that I don't think should be on the Greatest Page. Most threads here shouldn't be on the Greatest page. Ergo, Unrecommend is MY default position. Yours may be different. You may grade on a curve.

|
Edited on Mon Jul-27-09 09:07 AM by karynnj
I was assuming they meant something similar to the DK "hide" rating and was surprised they were used so freely. I was not so much grading on the curve, but simply handing out As and Fs and leaving everything else "ungraded". It would be good to have a common definition and yours really does have a lot of merit. Kind of like voting on what goes on the greatest page.
If that were the generally accepted definition, then comments protesting people unreccing make far less sense and they will be more common.

which is what inspired this rant. To that person I say so you like big drug companies basically buying off the media, just look at Viaoxx, millions spent and the media didn;t report shit until it got taken off the market.

19. Rejection of your thread is not rejection of the topic. |
|
You wrongly conclude that rejection of your thread is rejection of the topic. You posted a thread with nothing but a title and a link.
I will unrecommend that thread every time. Why? Because it's not worthy of Greatest Page, it's just another throw away thread that clutters the board.

Why should I have to give commentary on an article that speaks for itself? Sometimes an article is important enough to make it to the greatest page. I don't care if it was my link or someone else's, as long as word gets out on something important.
We'll just have to agree to disagree. Peace.

|
People screech for "Democracy" but only, it seems, when it agrees with what they want.
Personally, I don't have much sympathy for people who raise a big stink when their own threads got un-rec'd rather than someone else's. Everyone seems to be worried about their own little egos... i.e. "Reject my thread, reject me as a human being".
that's the only explanation I can think of for the general silliness over the unrec option...

|
If you are happy enough with something to reccommend it, you should be willing to publicly be seen doing so. Even more importantly, unreccomends should be less common - IMO issued only when a thread is really obnoxious, troll like, or blatantly dishonest. and see
I have posted on Daily Kos and I have never had a problem that anyone could click on recommend - or a troll rating (in the rare interval where I have the power to troll rate) and see my user name as one who did it. I also like that they have pretty clear guidelines of when a troll rating (or a hide as it now is) is appropriate.
Judging from the number of <0 threads, some are using it with abandon here.

|
I mean, really....this isn't Free Republic where everyone marches and posts in lockstep.
There are lots of independent thinkers here. Or I would like to believe there are, anyway.
What's important to me might not amount to a hill of beans to you...and vice versa.
diversity of opinion means we aren't all going to agree on things, including what's "important"...we all can't have the same exact priorities in our lives...

why cant we see the numbers of both? Also we can see who recommends if they post..why shouldn't everyone post so we know who is for or against something? Transparency in posting is what we need.
