Is there a chance we'll get an unemployment insurance extension? |
|
This has happened in past recessions, as I recall. Is there any stimulus money to pay for an extension for the unemployed whose benefits will run out after September?
Hubby is unemployed and in that situation so I'm just wondering...

|
who are out of work as an independent contractor. If you are in that situation, you have my utmost sympathy...how are you getting by?

7. I know this sounds strange, but have you ever considered volunteering |
|
for a community organization? It puts you in touch with other people who may also be working and widens the pool of people who know something about you and and your talents. My dtr has done that and has a promising job interview coming up. She's been out of work for 4 years but has been active with her parents' group at my grandson's preschool.
Just a thought...

9. thanks, not at all; i've done many thousands of hours of volunteer work, |
|
but the kinds of orgs i've volunteered for have no money. but yeah, when i get desperate enough, i'm hopeful i could find something in that arena, and enjoy it.

10. Not talking about the organizations themselves but other volunteers you get to know. |
|
If THEY have jobs in an industry that your skills are compatible with you widen your pool of possibilities. In my dtr's case, it was another parent who works in a large publishing company. She knew my dtr's skills in that area (but in a different type of company) and told her about some job openings at her place of employment and promised to "walk" her resume into the right person's office.
the trick is finding the nonprofit that is the best fit for you and also does not just involve solitary volunteer work, but rather work/exposure to fellow volunteers...
Sorry I wasn't real clear on my first post!

5. Uhhhh, working for cash, and not paying self employment tax of course... |
|
when you choose between feeding your kids and paying our corrupt government to outsource your livlihood, the taxman isn't very scary at all.
Multiply by by millions, and there you have the massive revenue decreases that are crippling the state and federal budgets.

6. Yes, with unemployment as it is it will happen. If a GOP congress and Bush did it |
|
a Dem congress and president will too.

8. People in Arizona who filed in May still have NOT received one check from UI |
|
They have at least 4 hour waits on hold to talk to a real person -- if they can get a line in for all the busy signals. Their website is a mess.
The state had to make severe budget cuts and guess who got hurt? And, just to show how stoopid Arizona is, another agency that took severe personnel cuts was the department of revenue that collects money. We're in a race to the bottom here, trying to follow in California's footsteps.
