It's not just health insurance-it's auto, home, flood, dental, life, vision and more
How about those poor people from Katrina who had home insurance but got screwed because they didn't have flood insurance?
When my dad's house was vandalized, the insurance adjuster refused to get a police report, and when the two young punks were caught and ordered to make restitution (at $50.00 a month), he refused to pay a dime. Insurance adjusters? BS. Their job is to deny your benefits. Most deductibles are so high as to be unaffordable anyway. For the poor, insurance is a joke and unattainable.

1. when we had the fire a few years back, the adjuster came and sounded like a nice guy.
he told us to just estimate at everything and stuff. then, after we made the list, he came back and said we had to PROVE any items over a certain amount. and of course, since instead of going one by one we estimated the amount for groups of stuff, that meant pretty much everything. The fire burned so hot it looked like an art deco exhibit in our house, and he insisted that there weren't as many cds as we were claiming... they were all melted. He tried to screw us over. We only had $25k of coverage for the contents... with two 30 year old adults with a lifetime of stuff we've acquired, plus the kid.... we were easily over that amount. He knew what he was doing. If he had told us about havng to provide receipts for all this stuff.... stuff we'd had for YEARS and of course would not still have receipts for most of it... we would have gone line by line and listed each cd... each movie.... it became a fight with him after that. And in the end, we got our $25k, though.... then they dropped us and we were unable to get home owner's insurance from anyone after that. I don't know if we could now. It was farmer's insurance btw. The only ones who we could get to insure our 1976 singlewide that we had. Now we have a doublewide which no one wants to insure.... even though it sits on 18 acres. If we ripped the thing off the bottom, would they cover it then!!

2. Have you tried Foremost insurance.
I live in a mobile home and have been insured with Foremost for years and it isn't very expensive. I have only made one claim and that was when lighting hit my satellite dish and traveled through the wires and fried my TV, VCR and satellite box. They paid my claim quickly.

7. not sure about them. It's just crazy because we don't have ANY insurance right now
and I don't like not having anything. It's not like we burned down our own house. We lost everything.... things that can never be replaced. pictures of emily.... things from our parents. I know that some may do that for money, but there are so many more important things than money to us. The only thing I thought about after hearing about the fire from my husband was our dog and two cats. I thought the cats were in the house and was so worried. Thankfully they were all ok... but they were UNDER the house while it was burning, huddled together afraid. They were soaked and wouldn't come out for anyone but me... at least the cats anyway. Then afterward, I still get scared of if we would have been there.... it started right outside my daughter's door.... her windows were high off the floor (it was an old trailer) and there would have been no way for her to get out.... i have nightmares about it to this day. Her room was decimated.... flattened.... completely destroyed. I just thank god we were not home when it happened... And i get paranoid about it... want to make sure the kids could get out if there was a fire.

i'll ahve to check them out. thanks for the heads up.

3. Yeah, I forgot fire insurance.
My point is, That the whole outrage over health insurance is but one facet of the insurance industry. Most health does not include dental or vision, I don't know why, your teeth and eyes are part of your health too. They just all need more regulation. How they can sleep is beyond me. Insurance is a racket, plain and simple. Otherwise, they wouldn't be so fuckin' rich.

6. i think the biggest thing is that they try to apply insurance to healthcare.
You wouldn't normally use insurance, because it's purpose is just in case and you hope you never have to use it. Auto, house... it's meant to just be there in case something ever happens, but the likelihood of something happening is small... and you can do a lot to prevent things from happening too. health is something we only have so much control over, and without preventative care and doctor visits, we are more likely to have problems. so it shouldn't be health 'insurance' but healthcare.

4. insurance companies have always reminded me of the mafia...it's protection money
then when you want to collect, they either deny you or cancel you.

5. Insurance is the biggest fucking con game ever invented - and it's LEGAL
They have no problem taking your money, and promise that they'll take care of you if you need their services. Of course, they're hoping that you'll never actually need their services, so they can just keep collecting your hard-earned money. They even try to bribe you into sending them more suckers clients. But as soon as the unexpected happens and you actually need to use the services that you've been paying for, the insurance company becomes your adversary. As someone else in this thread points out, they send out their henchmen adjusters to screw you out of as much as possible, and deny as much of your claim as they can.

Insurance companies have NO interest whatsoever in helping you. NONE of them. They are ALL in the business of making as much $$$ for themselves as possible. They don't turn a profit by paying out what you think you are owed.

9. Claims Adjusters adjust claims downward - I've never heard of any adjusting a claim upward
They should rename the position Claims Diminishers or Claims Deniers.
