Poll question: How many of you knew this about public campaign financing? |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-27-09 03:37 PM by TheCoxwain
The presidential public financing system is funded by a $3 tax check-off on individual tax returns. The check off does not increase the filer's taxes, but merely directs $3 to the presidential fund.

1. I always check the box. |
|
When my dad first sat me down and explained how to do my income taxes, he pointed it out, explained it, and said he always checked it. So, I've checked it every time I filed.
However, since I got married, we have an accountant do our taxes, and I can't say with 100 percent certainty that he checked it off, though I did tell him to and he's a pretty conscientious dude.

2. They should make it $100 and end campaign contributions all together. |

preparer, I can tell you that I am lucky if I see 5% or 10% of tax filers that check the box. Even when I explain to them what it is.

6. Now, if the bastards would only use it instead of the payoffs from the corporations. |
|
However, that idea can be safely placed on the "FAT CHANCE!" shelf.

7. I think the more important issue.. Why does that question have to be there on tax forms.. |
|
It is not like that they ask me permission to give money to Halliburton/KBR
so why does this even come up? I think the asshole(s) who put it there wanted failure of the public financing system.

8. They should just add the three dollars to the total bill and replace the question with |
|
"do you want to opt into the public health care system at a cost of X per year?" Yes or no (please fill out accompanying form and return to your employer for payroll deduction. If unemployed please file this form with your local unemployment office).
