Two charged in ballpark beating death; third arrested

Police today charged two men in the beating death of a 22-year-old man during a brawl Saturday night in a parking lot at Citizens Bank Park.

A third man, Francis Kirchner, 28, of the 1200 block of East Palmer Street, turned himself in at police headquarters shortly before 6 p.m. today, said Lt. Frank Vanore. Kirchner will presumably be charged with murder for his role in beating death of David Sale, a 22-year-old from Lansdale.

Police said Charles Bowers, 35, of the 6100 block of Bustleton, and James Groves, 45, of the 800 block of East Almond Street, have been charged with murder in the case. Both were taken into custody at the parking lot Saturday night.

Kirchner fled before police could arrest him on Saturday.

The three men were part of a bus trip to ballpark organized by Moe's, a Fishtown bar, police said. ............(more)
