Don't want to give us our due?
Fine. That's fine. Don't wonder why people are mobbing your car stealing your 500 dollar hubcaps when you stop at the light. Don't stop to question why your wife's Gucci purse takes off every time she steps into public, leaping to the shoulder of a scrawny looking dude who smells like he could use a bath. Don't freak out if people think your shop window is a "Break and Take" display. Don't shit your pants to find your gardener smuggling roses out the back gate for his relatives to sell on a street corner.

You people take and take and take and bitch and whine if anyone asks you to actually give anything back to the society that supports your lofty position. You wouldn't have that money if there weren't people on the bottom making it possible for you to live the way you do. The world needs mechanics, engineers, and construction workers AT LEAST as much as it needs CEOs and upper management... Quite possibly a hell of a lot more.

So keep throwing your parties thinking you don't need anything from the "little people." If there's any justice in the world, it'll come to you that you need PROTECTION from those "little people," but there won't be any interested in providing it.

Honestly--paying your taxes to help us all with healthcare could be looked at as a kind of insurance. Payback insurance. You quit yer bitchin' and pay your bill and you won't get payback.

19. No, it's not the readers -
it's wasn't terribly well-constructed.

The last line might have been the first. Otherwise, I just read a mindless, simplistic rant.

And I am hardly unable to string together two related concepts - when they are presented.

You didn't present them.

You presented a bad outline for a rejected MFT movie..............................

6. A tiny sliver of the general population,
I should think, and I doubt any of them are reading this.

So, a catharsis for you? Every trite generalization you can make about people with money, as you perceive them?

You skipped over the people with money who do enormous good works. Do you know any of them? I do, and they're remarkably involved and concerned. Some of them have wealth beyond anything I can imagine, and they give it away in ways that take even me by surprise. I cherish them.

Will you write a separate rant, damning them for not doing enough, no matter that you have no idea what they might do?

15. Really?
It would appear from your post that crimes are all committed because of the economic disparity in our world. That is, in part, correct, but announcing such simplistic scenes doesn't do much except arouse accusations of melodramatic overreaction.

Two of my wealthiest friends support Obama all the way. In fact, one of them was one of Obama's earliest backers, when he first ran for office in Illinois, and has contributed tons of $$ to his campaigns. His wife - who was my friend before she married him - was just nominated to be Ambassador to The Netherlands. She's also from a very affluent family, and has always contributed heavily to Democratic causes and especially educational charities for young girls.

It's not about wealthy people, you know.

It's about Congress, bought and sold................................

21. The corporate world
owns Congress.

But, if you know your way around, you'll discover that the wealthiest people are not necessarily linked to the industries that hire the lobbyists who own the Congress.

And your line - "Don't pretend ...." - is some kind of omniscient, authoritarian bullshit that simply comes across as thick.

I'm sure you can do better without portraying yourself as a defensive loser..............................

your failure to communicate whatever it was you were trying to get across, it's always best to insult the intelligence of your readers.

Good that it's my failure rather than yours.

I can handle that. And learn from it.

What I've learned from this is that your writing is dense, ill-conceived, rambling, angry, and pointless.

Thank you for the lesson....................

33. Look -
you wrote a thin, simplistic piece that I found opaque.

Why are you taking it so personally? I'm not "unable" to do anything. I'm quite comfortable and secure with my ability to think critically and to read in the same way.

You just failed in whatever it was you wanted to achieve. But, that's only my opinion.

You seem to think it's personal, so you make nasty remarks about me. Nice touch.

You lost me, you know. Your apology is accepted, but your credibility - along with your unbelievable defensiveness about this - has defined you for this one.

For you to presume to know my "prejudicial viewpoint" is pure bias. How do you know me? Or what I think about anything?

If you can't handle someone finding fault with what you wrote, then don't post it.

Or block me. I happen to take this sort of thing seriously, read things carefully, and respond honestly.

Clearly, you can't handle that..................................

35. Hey--I don't know.
It seemed clear enough to me, and to Hydra (for example) that I was talking about the "you people" who bitched and moaned and squealed like their toenails were being pulled off with a pair of pliers because someone was actually asking them to pay for part of the healthcare reform package. Not rich people in general, but SPECIFICALLY the ones who bitch and moaned and whined. That line was aimed pretty carefully at a specific sub-set of the population, marked by the whole bitching and moaning despite having the money to be able to afford it.

That doesn't appear to include the folks you jumped into the thread to defend, but when that was pointed out to you, you grew increasingly obtuse and seemed to refuse to want to look at the sentence that said it all, that set the perimeters for the argument in the first place.

It's a very specific sub-section of rich folks, defined more by their attitude than by their money, which is why THAT was the most telling part of the sentence.

37. You insult MY writing because YOU couldn't grasp something
someone else got on the first try and you wonder why I get pissed off about it? Bite me. I don't go around misreading YOUR shit and talking shit about YOUR writing skills, now do I? If I get something wrong, I apologize, I don't sling crap until the person I've offended apologizes. WTF is up with that?

I don't block people for being dickheads. I also don't unrec them for posting shit I don't like. But I don't take someone shitting all over my thread based on an obviously deliberate misinterpretation for reasons I can't begin to understand without slinging some feces back in their direction. Credibility my ass... I've been here long enough that either I have it or I don't, and after the fiasco with the whole unrec thing, I'm really past the point of giving a fuck. The only reason I came back in the first place is because Nance asked me to, actually telling me that DU "needed" me.

I'm beginning to think the only thing DU needs is a fucking enema.

I caught fucking hell from people here for saying straight out something I never bothered to hide in the first place and I was really, really tempted to take off again. And stayed again because people asked me to. Don't come shitting all over my threads and I'll offer you the same courtesy. I expect that shit from Bloo because, though we actually agree on a lot, politically, Bloo doesn't really like my style. I'm not here to please everyone, certainly. And I'm becoming less motivated to please those who refuse to be pleased day by day. I'm starting to take this shit personally, whether it's meant that way or not, because it's become apparent that plenty of people DO mean it personally and I'm stupid enough to care.

Fuck the selfish rich. Not ALL the rich, certainly, but all the fucking "I don't want to participate" motherfuckers who've got theirs and don't give a damn about everyone else. You think I'm hurting myself? You think this is about what I don't have? It ain't and never has been. I don't come here bitching about the status quo because I'm getting raped up the ass by the system, but because I don't like thinking that someone else is. I've got really good health insurance, but single-payer has been one of my big causes.

Sometimes I don't know why I bother. Clearly I've got nothing to offer. According to some, anyway.

To quote Peter Venkman: "I don't have to take this kind of abuse from you... There are millions of people waiting around to abuse me."

24. How can it be anything but "lumping"?
When someone strikes such vapid generalizations about a group, how, exactly, is a reader to discern that the author is talking about certain people, when, in fact, no such discernment is available?

And don't tell me who deserves my defense. I would never question your preferences or loyalties, so stay off mine, please.............

"You people take and take and take and bitch and whine if anyone asks you to actually give anything back to the society that supports your lofty position."

Except, well... NOT. They don't take and take and take and bitch and whine if anyone asks them... So, by definition, simply by the READING OF THE FUCKING SENTENCE, they are NOT included (or lumped, if you like) in with those who DO.

If you read carefully, it's directly addressing those people who DO this, not those who might share an income level with those who do this.

Fuck.

26. The fallout of disparity by any other name...
The ultimate answer to society's woes is two-fold;

Education.

Prosperity.

With those, the maladies of the world diminish greatly.

If the people who broke into those cars had;

Education (and hope for their personal future),
Prosperity (which includes food, health coverage, and an X-Box),
A creative outlet (which is augmented through education)...

Then the vast majority of them would have stayed home.
