What does it say about us as a nation that Glen Beck's slanderous "Common Sense" is a #1 bseller?
Edited on Mon Jul-27-09 10:06 PM by brentspeak
Are there really people out there, our fellow citizens, incomprehendingly stupid enough to believe Glenn Beck's mirror-universe-history that Tom Paine was, of all things, some kind of pre-Ronald Reagan?

Thomas Paine, the Founder who wrote pamphlets advocating for a) a minimum-wage; b) an estate tax to fund social programs; c) a tax-funded pension program for all workers; and d) a nation based on economic and social egalitarian principles, is, according to Beck's nakedly-open criminal libel, a selfish "every man for himself" conservative jerk?

Glen Beck is living, walking proof that America's best days are long gone.

28. There you go
If it were priced like 99% of regular books - $30 and upwards - it wouldn't be such a "best-seller".

Add in "asterisk" bulk sales and you've got a genuine dud.

Also, let's see it's sales 6 months from now. If it hasn't been cleared from the discount $2 bin.

8. Unfortunatley, we are still living in a culture
that believes what the TV tells us - whack jobs like Hannity, O'Reilly and Beck get air time because they are pushing the agenda. The left is thrown a bone or two in the form of Olbermann and Maddow - those who truly need to be heard, like Moyers, get the shaft and not much attention. Fear - it's still the game that controls the masses.

FX is playing V for Vendetta right now ... I think I could watch that a zillion times and not tire of it.

12. Would love to think
that it was the bulk buying that the above posters suggest.

But I'm afraid they must all live in liberal districts. If you had to spend much time working with people here in Texas, you wouldn't be surprised that so many think Beck and Malkin are wonderful.

But while I think the numbers are there, I find the idea that these people read books to be a stretch.

13. When I lived in the UK and worked in the music business there was a term
for people like Becky.

Actually two terms and never separated: Liggers and wankers - And before going off on me that one of those is a racist slur -

Urban Dictionary - Music slang. Origin obscure, but has been in use since the 1970's

A person who blags their way into parties, or back stage at music events just to get free food and drinks, and to bore their friends stupid with stories of 'how they met David Coverdale,' or 'hung out with members of Led Zeppelin.
"I went back stage at the recent Deep Purple gig, but didn't meet the band cos there was 200 other liggers in the way"

Becky - and I propose that that become his new name - is obviously a political ligger - also a wanker along with his many fans.

29. Only the stupid buy books...
Smart people read the books in the store. That means that only books that attract the dumb (or get a lot of press) sell large amounts of books, and thus are "Best-Sellers".
