One more thing re: Gates-gate...
I am on the side of Gates. Feel that the policeman is guilty of a crime. However, one of the first things you learn in the corrections field is never cuff a perp with hands in front. They can attack you from that vantage point. Remember in "No Country for Old Men" when the deputy cuffed Sygur (sp?) with hands in front and he garroted him with the cuffs? Well, for an older person who may be stiff in the joints it is inhumane to cuff them behind their backs. It is painful to hold your hands back there for very long. I am struck by the fact that Gates was cuffed in front. It also indicates that the cop felt he had absolutely nothing to fear from Gates. Then why the arrest?

1. I'm on the fence and everyone except that cop knows you put the cuffs on from behind...
Unless it's about S&M, but something tells me this incident is anything but kinky...

3. Crowley cuffed him or ordered him to be cuffed behind his back.

One of the black cops asked that they remove the cuffs and cuff him in front after Gates complained that they were too tight.
