32. Part of that is fan loyalty=brand loyalty.
"Please support the sponsors who support our sport" is more than a track announcer's mantra. When NHIS was first built, a local restraunteur was asked which sorts of fan he preferred. His diplomatic answer? "NASCAR fans understand how our people make their money!"

And, given the iconic nature of some of the advertisers, it works both ways - the kid who starts cheering for the car with Tony the Tiger on the hood can become a Mark Martin fan.

But the key, as you say, is UP FRONT.

25. I suggested this when Dole was runnin'
Him in ConAgra colors, Clenis in Tyson Chicken livery.

They should avoid the 3-layer fire retardant(Nomex) material, tho. 3 hours in that stuff, and you can drive goats away with BO! I've seen blazers done up in sponsor colors, and that would definitely work.
And many of them are made in America, by folks who know their stuff, like Impact

And Hinchman

As you can see, this could work right to the local level.

34. We don't want congresscritters in Nomex
it might shield them from having a fire lit under their ass. :D "I dare say, old chap, I think my bum's a trifle warm, maybe my constituents don't want this bill passed. <perk>Oh, a wad of cash! I vote yea! <votes and runs away>" Yeah, we need to be able to make it hurt, metaphorically speaking. ;)

1-layer can stay pretty cool, actually...when I was skinnier I used to bum around an awful lot in surplus Nomex flight suits with a tie-dye underneath...damn wierdo musicians LOL! :D I loved those...totally solved the problem of unruly shirttails and sinking trousers...and I think it looked pretty cool behind a beat-up Hammond organ. ;)

But it would be damned funny and telling if our congresscritters had to sport the logos of their corporate sponsors. It makes Thom Hartmann's insistence that we need to eliminate corporate personhood seem like a fantastic idea. I can't see it ever happening, however... :(

83. I actually wrote an LTTE about this concerning Grassley
see if I can find it:

If Senator Grassley really wanted to lower health care costs there would be a simple way to accomplish it. That would be to remove the guy in the middle that takes 33% off the top.
That middle man is the insurance industry. They take 33% off the top for little work. The hardest work they do is denying claims that insureds felt would be covered. Judging by bankruptcies they have caused and broken lives left in their wake, they do the denial part of their job well. Forcing people to buy insurance will do no good if the insurance companies can still avoid paying on claims.
I really wish Senators had to wear NASCAR type logos of their sponsors sized to equal the size of an industry’s “campaign contribution.” Were that to happen we couldn’t see Grassley for the giant insurance and hospital logos he’d be wearing.

Better of course would be ridding the country of ideas such as corporate person-hood and money = speech. Along with that, all elections should be publicly funded and all campaign contributions should be made illegal.

78. NASCAR Day in Washington, D.C.
I can see it now...thousands camping out on Capitol Hill helping to sew corporate patches on jumpsuits specially designed for each Senator and Congressional Rep. The suits would have the Rep. or Senator's name already embroidered on the front. We could even have people read out the various official's name and the corresponding corporate sponsor patches that go with "their suit."

Next up folks is Max Baucus...and here are his corporate sponsors...Unitedhealth group, Humana, etc., etc. Looks like for Senator Baucus we will need 45 volunteers to help sew on his 45 corporate patches. Can you imagine the press interest and the interest from the crowds that visit Washington. LOL I'd love to see it! We could then have photos of each person's suit and a list of their corporate sponsors that could be posted online. Maybe we could even have a car painted like a NASCAR auto parked nearby to bring in the crowd. LOL
