Clunkers for cash... looks like it is going to be good for the car dealerships |
|
They have appts up the wazoo at the local dealerships with people coming in to take advantage of the "clunkers" offer locally.

1. I wonder how many anti-Obama anti-Stimulus GOP jerks will take advantage of this program? |

. . . my Rethug cousin and her husband.
:puke: Trash-talking about Obama constantly ("oooo, Obama, he'll fix EVERYTHING" and on and on about the Cambridge police remark), but they were literally the first in line for Cash for Clunkers.

Unless they GIVE me a new car for my clunker, I'm SOL. There's lots of people like me who can only afford the $25/mo payment plan at best

I traded in a Ford Ranger that was old enough to vote. It really should have been junked, but it looked like a pickup truck so a dealership took it.
I've driven third world vehicles my whole life until now.
This is a great plan for suffering dealers and manufacturers. Unfortunately, it won't reach the people it needs to. It never does.

4. And if you have neither the clunker NOR the cash? |
|
Maybe some of that stimulus money should go for improving public transportation, too.

If 45% of our monthly income didn't go to medical. My wife's medical is costing $1000/mo counting everything.

The wife drives a Navigator and I drive a Dodge Lonestar Edition 1500 and would only trade them in for something similar.

17. Rocktivity, some of the money DID go towards Mass Transit. Someone posted that info last week |
|
Thread sank like a stone.
And I can't remember what the specific topic was
But I am pretty sure it was the first of the train cars being built with stimulus money.

That beat up old Mercedes was probably a treasure trove of parts, useful to keep someone else's car running.

13. This is a great idea, but.... |
|
I believe that the situation we are in is due to people living beyond their means and using debt to advance their lifestyle. I have to imagine that the majority of people who are driving "Clunkers" cannot afford a $300-$500 car payment. Again, this is not everyone, but if you are driving a clunker, you also do not have a car payment. A person may save $5-10K on a new car, but they are financing the rest for who knows what kind of an interest rate and incurring debt. I will never buy a car and finance it for more than 3 yrs and $200/mo. But I have have countless friends who have car payments at $400-$500/mo and spending more than 1/4th of their paycheck on a shiny new car they cannot afford. Lets remember how we got here, "Buying/financing shit we cannot afford"

14. Yep...Saw It Yesterday |
|
I had to take my wife's car into the dealership and in front was a beat-up old GM van with the sign "Cash For Clunkers" on it. I even saw some people checking out new cars...the busiest I've seen the dealer in a while. I looked at the criteria and none of my cars qualifieds...they all get at least 25mpg (mine tops 30), but if it gets those old rolling coffins off the road, so much the better. Ironic, it's a VW dealer...so much for helping the Michigan economy.
