seeking info on travel overseas or the states/volunteer work

im looking to do short term volunteer work,
say over christmas break or spring break
this semester but dont really know where to
begin looking.

ive also heard of opportunities
to volunteer in buddist monasteries overseas and things
of that nature.

there is a lot of info on the web but its hard
to tell what is legit and whats not
can anyone shed light on this subject for me?
