IDF Vets Train U.S. Jews to Protect Their Communities (not a joke)

http://www.israelnationalnews.com/SendMail.aspx?print=print&type=0&item=132551

Starting in late July, a group of Israeli combat veterans will be holding a training camp in New York to teach advanced self-defense techniques to Jews in U.S. communities. An increasing number of American Jews have expressed interest in the program following a wave of anti-Semitic incidents worldwide over the past year, organizers report.

The group calls itself Kitat Konenut New York – a reference to the “rapid response teams” active throughout Judea and Samaria. Rapid response teams in Israel, comprised of local civilians who are IDF veterans, have often been the first on the scene of terrorist attacks and other emergencies, and have prevented casualties.

It was founded in 2006 in response to a shooting attack at a Jewish center in Seattle, Washington. One woman was murdered in the attack, and several others were wounded.

Training this year will begin on July 31 and conclude on August 9.

2. They Were In Skokie in 1979

The Nazi were preparing to march and terorize the many holocoust survivors who lived in the village. The courts didn't stop the march from taking place and there were many threats made against those opposing the march. While not in an official capacity, the locals did take their own measures...groups of "security" were recruited in the event that the march took place and the local police couldn't handle the situation. Fortunately the Nazis were scared off (many credit the IDF and JDL presence in scaring Frank Collins) and violence was averted.

There has been a rise of anti-semetic violence in recent years. In 2000 a skinhead went on a rampage through two predominately Jewish areas randomly shooting and killed several Jewish residents on their way to synagogue as well as a well-respected black basketball coach as he played a pick-up game in his driveway with local kids.

Sadly every high holiday, synagogues have to hire armed security...a fact of life. No surprise there are those who feel the need to protect themselves.

3. Not surprising and may be called for
When seconds count, the cops are minutes away. Also given the draconian gun laws in places like NYC, alternatives need to be available.

4. Exactly.
And Jews learned a long time ago to always look over their shoulders. You never know.

5. Anti semitism and just plain hate waxes and wanes over time
Right now between the neo Nazis on one side, muslims and Farrakhan on the other, many Jews I know are almost thankful when its *only* xtains trying to convert them.

Its not clear in the article, but I assume this training is more for Haredi or other Orthodox Jews who are much more readily identifiable than their reformed brethren.

7. Oh, them goshdarned Jooz....
I'm not seeing a problem here at all. Well, other than the fact that you're actually somehow upset about this.

8. Same thing happened in Russia around the turn of the century.
I'll give you a big hint, it wasn't the kindness of Tsar that ended the wave of progroms.

9. Why are you "sighing"?
What is your problem with people defending themselves?

Makes sense that Jews would want to protect themselves.

Good for the IDF vets and good for the volunteers.
