If we ACTUALLY had a liberal media...
...the news would look a lot different from what we see now.

The skewed data from health insurers would be chased down with a cry of "follow the money" so loud that Orin Hatch wouldn't dare cite nonsense from United Health Group, one of the nation's largest insurers. The howl of outrage would be fanned by op eds demanding to know why we let data from thieves like these be cited.

The $1trillion dollar cost of healthcare, (before tax increases) would be countered at every turn with the $24 trillion dollar bailout of the financial industry. Why should you pay higher taxes? Because we are $23trillion in the hole from bailing you out even AFTER you cough up a trillion to insure every man, woman and child in the country.

The news would be demanding and explanation of Obama's failure to offer a single payer health care plan. Never mind his lukewarm endorsement of a public option. Why should innovation and economic progress be shackled to the will of insurers?

The entire debate on health care would illustrate the lack of an Office of Technology Assessment, killed by science-fearing Republicans in 1995. Why don't we have an impartial arbiter of scientific claims? Well, the answer would be obvious, because Republicans didn't want one.

Finally, crackpot birthers would be derided a the flat-earthers of the political age and Michele Bachman would be the object of ridicule for delaying a commemoration of Hawaii's admission into the union over this issue.

These are a few of the stories that would have been front and center if we ACTUALLY had a liberal media.

This is the third one of these I've done. I'm thinking about making this a weekly series. Send advice and words of encouragement.

1. $1T=$100B....10 year plan.
Funny how no other budget consideration is factored by a decade.

Military spending, by the same measure, equals $6.5T.

That's a "Holy shit!"

Ten Trillion bucks injected into the economy, off our future, and not mind that the recovery that that funding is bringing during this "jobless" recovery will mostly help Wall Street.

11. You are right...
...but the right wing assertion is that the media is liberal and BIASED. By framing it in the extreme that they use, I make their accusation even more discordant with reality because EXTREME left-wing voices are few and far between in the media.

Still, A true balanced media would be doing a lot of the same things a ravingly liberal media would though. As Stephen Colbert said, "Reality has a well-known liberal bias."

9. I used to post these at politics.com...
...way back in 2000.

I think they are pretty effective at making it clear we DON'T have a liberal media. I think it really moves people in the middle and fires up people on the left as well as documenting the constant stream of missed story and editorial opportunities.

The irony is that I find these stories someplace, often on DU, so they ARE getting out there somewhere. What I really wonder is which stories are being totally missed.

Two good, solid regular sources of missed stories for me are:

http://www.democracynow.org/

AND

http://www.projectcensored.org/

Enjoy!

10. Please make this a weekly series
although I'm not sure the liberal tag is needed.

This is the news we would be reading if the media actually served the people and was not beholden to corporations.
