WaPo reporter: Birthers get media attention because ‘there is no videotape of Obama being born.’

Today in an online chat, Washington Post reporter Ben Pershing was asked why “bithers” and other conspiracy theorists such as those claiming that former top Clinton White House aide Vince Foster was murdered “get play on the real media” while others such as the “9/11 Truthers” don’t. But instead of denouncing the birther nonsense, Pershing appeared to justify the mainstream media’s attention on this (non)issue:

Ben Pershing: Perhaps because there is an actual videotape of the planes hitting the World Trade Center that billions of people around the world have seen, while there is no videotape of Obama being born in Hawaii or Vince Foster committing suicide.

Also, for what this is worth, there is no bill in Congress declaring 9/11 to have been a giant conspiracy. But there is a bill in the House calling for presidential candidates to provide proof of citizenship. And there was a congressional investigation of Foster’s death.

While it is unclear how video of Obama’s birth would prove he was born in Hawaii (do doctors and nurses who deliver babies in Hawaii wear leis?), actual proof (birth certificate and birth announcement in local newspapers) exists. That should be enough.

1. Also there is no videotape
of the Revolutionary War, the Constitution being written, the Declaration being signed, the Civil War being fought, or Lincoln being assassinated.

Therefore, none of those events happened either.

3. Yeah, but they'd say it was staged like the moon landing or some shit.
I mean seriously. Let them go on...and tire themselves out on it while we pass healthcare.

Seriously, while their busy on this lets sneak healthcare on by them and then sign them up for mental health assessments because by then it'll be covered.

4. Geez, did someone declare this week to be...
'TEH STOOPID' week or something? If not, they should! First we have O'Reilly saying this:

"Of course Canada has longer life expectancy than the U.S. -- we have 10 times more people."

and now adding your gem from the WP reporter and it is ONLY Tuesday!

All I can say is :wtf:

6. Just askin'... but how common was videotape in 1961?
Yes, it was probably around... but not commonly available (including the camera and equipment) for the average person in 1961. TV cameras, for example, were large, heavy, super-expensive items in 1961... not to mention that they required high-intensity studio lighting to function indoors.

Back then, it was pretty much Super-8 film.

8. It would have been film 46 years ago, not videotape...
...at least for the masses...portable, hand-held camcorders didn't exist then.

14. That's what i meant...not video, but film....VIDEO camcorders came
in the 80's...so the guy saying there's no video of his birth is wrong...he should have said there's no film.

13. Video tape nothing! I want it in high def!
And with at least Dolby sound.

Better yet, we should all demand to have been there.
