Gold's Gym declares July "Cankles Awareness Month"
Edited on Tue Jul-28-09 03:59 PM by ccharles000
Yes, seriously. And the Wall Street Journal did a feature on it.

Between declaring thin eyelashes a "condition" and an awareness month created around "chubby ankles," it seems that the micromanagement of women's body parts is becoming so much of a trend that soon, women will begin to hate literally every fiber of their being.

This is not to mention that the gym's campaign is a smack in the face to every awareness month that works towards, you know, saving lives and fighting injustice and stuff. Shame on Gold's, and on WSJ for actually covering this bullshit as news.

I see marketing as Evil but have to admire it the way admire Machiavelli. Plus if I had cankles I would want to deal with them I in know way want to be come like my 5th grade teacher who was as ugly on the inside as she was on the outside

16. I have cankles
LOTS of women over 40 have them.

Nice to know you believe it's okay for women to continue hating their bodies because they don't look like the "hotties" at the gym.

4. I think some competing gym ought to do an ad that says "We won't treat people like shit, like GOLD's
GYM does."

I think they could get some mileage out of that.

12. I am not sure I take your point. What does this ad campaign have to do with that? Nothing.
Maria Callas, a thin woman, in great shape for much of her career, had "cankles." Some people are thick in some spots, thin in others. She had a large ankle in relation to the rest of her leg. It caused her no small amount of insecurity.

This "campaign" by Gold's Gym is an indictment of women who don't have "sufficiently shapely" legs--and it's a sexist load of horseshit.

If you can't see that, you have a bit of introspecting to do.

8. There's a "Weeds" episode with that name...
..and whenever I see "cankles" I think of it.

Yep. That's it, that's all the productive info I have to add to this discussion.
