We, the people, must immediately Incorporate !!!!!
ALL TOGETHER!!!!!!Someone here mentioned the idea, so I can't claim ownership, but the idea is that since our gov. only seems to bend over or spread their legs for Big Giant Corporations, instead of listening to us, then it is high time we incorporate!

How do we plan this??

If you are guffawing....is it so silly?...got a better idea?

1. Two questions: Can I be the CEO?
And can I get my multi-million dollar bonus now?

Oh, and a third and fourth question: Will WeThePeople, Inc. pay for me to relocate and will I have a company car?

3. Maybe we should go after the corps directly and skip the paid middlemen.
Which is what the politicians are.

6. General strike is the only answer
Edited on Tue Jul-28-09 05:23 PM by Zodiak
But only a well-organized one will work, and that is going to take repeated attempts to get it right, I am afraid.

Will people be put out of work? Yes, but that is not the end of everything. In fact, I would contend that it is WORK that feeds the beast. You would not be working for someone if you were not making a profit for them. It is time to put that work to yourself and not some greedy bastard looking to profit from it. Once you get the idea that they need you instead of the other way around, now you are ready to demonstrate that leverage.

So how to organize a general strike? It's not easy in the United States. Too many of us define ourselves by our jobs, and the thought of walking off of your job is anathema to many Americans. It will undermine their self-worth. Not only that, but we have no cultural memory of successful general strikes, even though examples of it exist all around the world today.

If you do not go to work, the "economy" takes a plunge. The powers that be live and get fat off of the "economy", so you must disengage from it during the strike for it to be effective.

One week would bring a lot of these bastards to their knees. One month and the government will be forced to comply.

We first start by educating people in the use of general strikes. Look around the internet....Europe has lot of them. They are very effective. This should take about two years of intensive internet discussion. Every thread that says "what should we do?" should mention general strike over and over. Buzz tends to create memes, and memes are powerful, indeed. By the paucity of mentions of the general strike on DU, I think we have a LONG way to go educating people.

Once it is clear that "general strike" is now part of the average voter's lexicon, you move to stage 2....preparation. You plan a general strike in the early fall when the weather is mild. Very little power needed when the weather is mild. In the spring, all planning to participate should plant gardens....if not where they live, then where another supporter lives. Each family should have a decent-sized garden to harvest just before the general strike. We will need to preserve it and store it for the general strike.

When the strike happens, no one goes to work except for essential services. Power is shut down as much as humanly possible. Everyone eats the food they grew themselves and only buys food from local farmers who are also participating in the strike. Strike participants MUST create an alternative economy in this way, even if it only last as long as the strike.

By doing this, you will effectively bring this country's fat cats to their knees. These assholes operate on a margin, and our little strike just ate their margin to hell. No yachts...no golden parachutes....no fifteen-car fleets in the driveway.

It will hurt badly...so badly that the fat-cats will do anything to go back to the way it was. That is the moment that I predict they will try to force people to work or try to employ scabs, but that is another story. Let's just say that we have screwed ourselves as a country so much that there are no easy solutions. That is what I believe, anyways.

The bottom line is: only a general strike will right this listing ship. The ballot box has pretty much shown itself to be too corrupt to be an instrument the People any longer. Something must be done short of insurrection or rioting. General strike is the preferred method for this world-wide, and it works.

7. Wait, didn't we DO this already?
Edited on Tue Jul-28-09 06:07 PM by appal_jack
I think that some visionary Americans took your suggestion... in 1789.

"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

This country ALREADY belongs to "We the people," but too many of us people have forgotten that. The corporations ARE (or should be) subservient to us. The framework is already in place. Will we restore America?

We don't need another incorporation, we need to live-out the freedoms and rights "We the people" already have already reserved for ourselves, while denying corporations even the concept of 'rights.'

10. Rather Pathetic Denial
The words and intent of the Constitution are quite clear. I am quite realistic about how far we as a nation fall short of that ideal at present. But to fix the reality, we don't really need more words, nor a new 'incorporation' as a people (constituting a government is synonymous with incorporating as a people). Instead, we need a plurality of Americans with an understanding of the rights we already have, and the resolve to check our government and the corporations it charters within the boundaries we have already set.
