Insulting and unpatriotic! |
|
It is insulting and unpatriotic for Republicans to suggest that the U.S. government can't handle health care administration.
Do Republicans doubt the power of the United States of America to achieve whatever we, the people, and our representatives, set our minds to?
Republicans' derisive cynicism about the U.S. government administering health care makes a mockery of our many achievements as a democracy...
...and we, the Democrats, should call them on it.
:patriot:

3. The GOP thought they settled this issue. |

The Bush Administration was proof that government does not work.
Obviously not a single Republican or 'blue dog' Democrat should hold office. They have proven themselves to be incompetent and dishonest.

4. The government farms out the health care administration. |

Medicare is administered by private companies. Palmetto GBA is one. A public option would be like medicare I think and the administration of that would be administered by a private company.

6. That is a rational point.... |
|
...however, the Republicans rely upon the irrational to foment disfavor, and one of their methods is to imply that the U.S. government would make a mess of things.
To point out the implicit lack of patriotism at the heart of their "argument" would enable us to take the reins of the discussion.

5. Republicans have been working for over thirty years at making government inefficient |

SO they can make the claim that all services should be eliminated or privatized. Katrina aftermath? Not GWB's fault, no it was that bad FEMA that couldn't do stuff. In their minds, it is irrelevant that that appointment of totally unqualified people to high offices ensures that the agencies can't function. Their focus is the non-functionality - "it doesn't work, eliminate it!"
The FEMA Clinton inherited from GHWB was not as effective as Clinton expected after Hurricane Andrew, so he improved it. What did GWB do after the Katrina debacle? Nothing.
Although something like 90% of the people covered under Medicare are happy with their coverage, Jeb Bush tried to screw it up here in Florida by privatizing many of the services. That got poor service and major criminal fraud cases.
We need President Obama to set up a good health care system for all Americans and have it be so far along in development and so effective before he leaves office that if we should get a Republican administration they will not be able to dismantle it or gut it. He needs to make sure that the bureaucracy to run the system is so far entrenched it will take a major effort to screw it up. Otherwise, the Repubs WILL mess it up, leaving us screwed even worse than we are now.
