Paul Stanley Resigning From Legislature--GOP Politician Had Affair With 22-Year-Old Intern

he told this local teevee station he was resigning to 'spend more time with his family' .....

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- State Sen. Paul Stanley submitted his resignation from the Tennessee General Assembly on Tuesday over an affair with a 22-year-old legislative intern that was revealed by an alleged extortion plot.

"Due to recent events, I have decided to focus my full attention on my family and resign my Senate seat effective August 10," Stanley's resignation letter said.
Stanley, R-Germantown, was appearing on a radio talk show in Memphis and couldn't immediately be reached to comment further. He said in a text message sent to The Associated Press earlier in the day that he would be "saying something soon."

Court records show the 47-year-old Stanley told agents investigating a blackmail case that he had a sexual relationship with intern McKensie Morrison.
The married father of two has admitted to investigators that he took photos of her in various states of undress.
Her boyfriend, Joel Watts, is charged with trying to extort $10,000 from Stanley in April in return for photos and a video of the affair.

4. oh, he represents Germantown; now I understand.
I can't stand that lily-white Christian fundamentalist suburb. I'm not surprised that a bunch of religious hypocrites like that would elect a religious hypocrite like Stanley.

Yesterday, Rep. John Deberry (D-Memphis) and Senator Paul Stanley (R-Memphis) filed companion bills that would prohibit “any individual who is cohabitating in a sexual relationship outside of a marriage that is valid under the constitution and laws of this state from adopting a minor.”

13. Wow, a republican who ISN'T also a hypocrite!
Even though his behavior doesn't match his belief set, his resignation is consistent with his stated values. Wow. I wish more of them would follow his example.

11. Oh, whew! The intern has already been married.
Can't have an abstinence-only politician enticing a young woman to have sex before marriage. Why, that would be hypocritical.
