Poll question: Should Congress Pass A Law Banning People Convicted Of Animal Cruelty From Pro Sports?
Curious to see how many DUers think this would be a good federal law (obviously it wouldn't work state-by-state).

1. I think anyone ever convicted of a crime should never be allowed to work ever again...
you never know what they will do next.

5. Not sure if you are being sarcastic
but that is the very issue we are dealing with in America today. Prisoners get out of prison and for the majority of them they can't find a job, thus they can't move on in their lives. What does that leave them because they do have to survive, a return to crime.

For the pedophiles and murderers I don't think they should get out of jail.

For those mental cases like we recently had in WA where they are extremely violent and refuse to take their medicine and they commit a violent crime they should spend the rest of their lives in a mental institution.

2. I think it's up to the league and the fans to decide.
The guy did his time. How do you continue to justify punishing him by depriving him of his livelihood?

BTW, I hope the league and the fans say no.

4. Sure, or let them play but give up 99% of their pay to animal shelters.
Clearly, I'm not a sports nut (unless it's cycling, archery, gymnastics, and those other oddball activities).

8. I would care about Michael Vick's job if he were made head of the SPCA
Since he is not, I don't give a flying flip about his football career.
He was tried, convicted, and served his sentence.
If he was rehabilitated (and I really thought progressives cared about rehabilitation and not punitive measures)then he will stay out of jail. If he was not, he will go back to his old ways and get caught and go to prison again.
It is really that easy.

Just seems like there are bigger fish to fry, the guy is a royal prick for doing what he did, I am no fan of him or sports really, but I dont think congress needs to get involved.

He served his time. The PETA guy on Ed Shultz today was made to look silly by the other guy. Psychological evaluation? Then the other guy asked about Obama swatting the fly. Does he need evaluation too?
If his talents merit, he should be allowed to practice his trade.

15. As long as W. bush remains unpunished, there can never be justice in America.
It's hard to say if Vick has been properly punished but one thing is true: the former president of the United States, and people on Fraud Street who are ripping us off are being paid billions for their crimes. Punish them for their crimes first and then we'll talk about Vick.

20. I think sports teams that play in stadiums subsidized by state/local funds should be required
to have an ethics code all employees must follow. Anyone not up to snuff is automatically canned or barred.

It's an outrage that these sick cases of arrested devlopment and criminals are given a pass time and again just because they can play a sport.

from having any job ever.

Nah, it'd have no discernible effect.

27. What, no "fuck, no" choice?
I think Michael Vick is a dispicable pig, but we don't stop child molesters from playing or coaching pro sports--and the only way we would is if Tee Ball suddenly went pro.

If someone wants to hire him, more power. If he has a brain in his head and ever starts making money, he'll found a no-kill animal shelter and staff it with the very best and brightest personnel.
