2. some newspeople
think that the fact that Palin has some devoted um, followers, means that she is exempt from analysis or criticism. That seemed to be the route that Savage was going. Plenty of people who have "devoted followings" have been ripped apart by the press for lack of strategy, disipline, etc, so many "objective" news people seem terrified of offending Palin's cult for some reason . Actually, I think the press has been relatively easy on Palin for that reason. I was glad that Barnicle said "Can we just stop being afraid of offending viewers?"

4. You got it right with "Palin's cult".
Palin does not have followers or supporters; she has worshippers. Seeing her as Perfect in every way is an article of religious faith. Criticizing her is blasphemous, just like criticizing God's other offspring, Jesus, would be. Except that Jesus didn't whine all the time (or in fact ever), unlike his little sister.

We've seen it over and over. Wingnuts must have someone to irrationally hate (formerly Clinton; now Obama) and someone to irrationally love (formerly Reagan; now Palin). They are comfortable only with Pure Good and Pure Evil. Any nuance, any subtleties, any shades of gray are merely liberal lies designed to confuse the faithful.

Crazy, the lot of them.

5. the media also forgets
that these people were obsessed with Palin BEFORE the "RNC speech" that the media tries to claim was her Star is Born Moment. They were so desperate for someone that as soon as they heard the IDEA of Sarah Palin (as much as Noonan sucked, she did have a good point that the media CREATED Palin, while the base barely knew who she was) they were in love. Her base didn't care that they had never seen her have an interview, etc, the idea of her was enough.

6. Dead on once again!
The key phrase is "the idea of her". The Palinbots are worshipping a false god. (Isn't that forbidden in the Ten Commandments?)

Reading comments from Palin worshippers makes it abundantly clear that they are seeing and talking about Super Sarah, a fictional, goddess-like Perfect Being who embodies everything they ever thought, knew, or believed in, all in one Perfect Person. Hell, if Super Sarah existed, I'd support her too!

What they refuse to see, of course, is Real Sarah, the train wreck we thinking people see so clearly. The yawning gap between Super Sarah and Real Sarah is so immense that believers in each think that the other's supporters are simply crazy.

Are people weird or what?
