Report: Homeland Secretary Plan to Expand Bush Initiatives
Report: Homeland Secretary Plan to Expand Bush Initiatives

WASHINGTON - U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is expected to reveal on Wednesday the Obama administration's domestic policies to prevent terrorist attacks, the Wall Street Journal said on Tuesday.

In an interview, Napolitano said the new strategy is expected to rely largely on refining and expanding initiatives launched under former President George W. Bush, the paper reported on its website.

<snip>

Among the Bush administration programs to be expanded, for instance, is a pilot program to train police to report suspicious behavior such as theft of keys from a facility that keeps radiological waste, the paper said.

In a speech scheduled for Wednesday to the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, Napolitano is likely to also emphasize the President Barack Obama's concern for civil liberties, according to the paper.

4. What kind of question is that?
Can you possibly believe that terrorism is not a serious threat

6. the largest state-sponsor of terror in the world is
the US government.

"Those who trade liberty for security deserve neither."

I would much rather live free than live under DHS tyranny.

9. I'd rather live in a world without terrorism...

But we are where we are. The operative word here is "live" - there is no question in my mind that foreign terrorists would kill millions of us if they could. It would be dangerous and naive to believe otherwise and in my view, President Obama's first priority should be to keep us safe. I don't like the inconvenience at the airport and I know some people have been unfairly labeled as risks. I don't like the privacy issues (wiretaps, etc.) either. Given the size and scope of the problem, I don't see much in the way of alternatives.

If you were in Obama's shoes, how would you keep us safe?

10. well, I would start by
Edited on Wed Jul-29-09 12:14 PM by ixion
- pulling out of Iraq and Afghanistan

- start respecting the geneva conventions and close gitmo

- stop killing hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians each year under the guise of liberation

- dismantling DHS and TSA

- repealing the unPATRIOTic Act, the MCA and the host of unconstitutional BS passed under the * cabal.

that's just for starters. The best way to keep us 'safe' is to restore our republic.

you know, things like that. Fascism begats fascism, and solves nothing.

C'mon now, buck up. This is the land of the Free and the Brave, not the enslaved and terrified.

Oh, and there is no such thing as a "world without terror," nor will there ever be such a place. You cannot fight abstractions like 'terror' or 'drugs' or any other such human concoction. You can only teach people not to be afraid of shadow on the wall.

12. Those things have merit,...
but I don't believe they would make us any safer. You evidently don't believe that terrorists exist and terrorist acts occur. I was there on 9/11 and I can assure you, it really did happen.

8. In the context of how the biggest bullies on the planet frame it, yes.
Now that obviously doesn't mean that actual 'terrorist' groups don't exist, but that hasn't anything to do w/the U.S. govt's phony "war."

Realize that the phony "war on terror" is a very real war OF terror being waged against anyone who opposes the immoral crimes of the U.S. empire and its war machine.

3. Do we still examine only three percent of all shipping containers entering the USA?
Edited on Wed Jul-29-09 10:52 AM by Winterblues
 There is most definitely more that can be done to protect america and a lot less that should be done in eliminating our Constitutional Rights.
