Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels
For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

They hide behind their bible to make their prejudices and selfishness seem justified.

19. I dont claim to have no prejudices...
as many "christians" do. I am just pointing out that so many people who follow Jesus do the exact opposite of what was taught by him. They are not loving, forgiving or understanding. My main prejudice which I know is wrong some of the time is that religious people mainly christians arent as intelligent as most. I know that isnt always right, there are alot of brilliant christians out there, just not the norm. IMO

26. I think people take away from scripture whatever they bring to it..
If you are basically a good, kind and loving person then you will find scripture that reinforces those qualities.

On the other hand if you are a vengeful, angry and nasty person you will find scripture to make you think you are in the right.

I suspect you fall into the former camp and I'm pretty sure the poster to whom you are replying is speaking of the latter one.

31. It is important when reading scripture to read the meaning of the
scripture and NOT read ourselves. The latter group you are talking about aren't really reading the scripture, they are reading themselves and projecting their own fascist attitudes in to the meaning.

32. That's impossible, "scripture" is ALWAYS a cover for one's own ideological views.
And any religionist who denies that is simply in denial.

6. At some point the religious right is going to have to deal with this...
if they want to attempt to try to maintain even a shred of credibility.

You know... like the GOPers pretending it's the southerners ruining the party are doing. It's lame, yeah... but at least they're trying. And stirring up discord in the party while they're at it, which is the good part.

9. Private insurance companies using your insurance payments
Edited on Wed Jul-29-09 05:47 PM by RandomThoughts
to pay for abortion.

That's right, the private sector for profit sector pays for abortion! Why wouldn't they, it makes a profit, costing less then delivery and child cost insurance fees.

If you are a single issue person, and abortion is the only issue you think is being a good Samaritan or loving your Lord God and your neighbor.

Then stop private insurance companies, they have been paying for abortions for years! Your insurance payments are killing babies!

That advertisement is hypocrisy and deception.

11. Their lives will be RUINED, I say!
"The matter is quite simple. The Bible is very easy to understand. But we as Christians are a bunch of scheming swindlers. We pretend to be unable to understand it because we know very well that the minute we understand we are obliged to act accordingly. Take any words in the New Testament and forget everything except pledging yourself to act accordingly. 'My God, you will say, if I do that my whole life will be ruined.' "

- Søren Kierkegaard,
Danish philosopher, theologian, and ethicist (1813-1855)

Quote today from Sojourners... how apt. :)

23. Honestly, when I hear "Christian" now, I hear hate, selfishness, and bigotry.
Sorry, but that's how it looks. It's like some twisted, sick religion. Obviously, it wasn't intended to be this way, but there you go. They oppose everything that would help people, free thinking, science, women's rights, gay rights, etc. Oh, and pro-war. WTF happened?

30. So why is the "Family Research Council" against health care reform?
This ad is so blatantly dishonest that it's difficult to believe that the people behind it are really sincere. So what is going on here? I've been trying to find a connection between the FRC and the insurance companies but so far I haven't been able to find anything.

This ad is way too reminiscent of ads run by corporate sponsored front groups. So who's sponsoring them? Anyone know of any connections between them and anyone who stands to lose if true reform were to occur?
