For a while there, I was beginning to believe Utopia was at hand.

you might want to read these two paragraphs from the story
Scott W. Buchholz, the infant's father, said Sanchez suffered from postpartum depression and that she told him she was schizophrenic a week before the slaying. Buchholz, who said he also is schizophrenic, said he wants her to receive the death penalty.

A family member has said Sanchez had been undergoing psychiatric treatment and that a hospital called looking for her several months ago. Gloria Sanchez, the mother's aunt, said her niece had been "in and out of a psychiatric ward."

3. Well, you did forget to mention the schizophrenia.

Just a small insignificant fact.

on edit: un-rec'd for purposeful omission of relevant facts for the purpose of causing outrage.

6. If both parents are ill, then the baby should have been removed by Social Services.

8. Maybe so...
but that doesn't excuse purposefully leaving out relevant facts just to create outrage.

Lack of coverage/ignoring mental health issues...

Poor baby.

5. And she didn't mean to eat its brains, either.
Strange what a person can do when they're inattentive.

Actually, an insanity plea in this case wouldn't just be a plea -- the crime itself almost cries out for it.

10. This woman needs help.
What she did was horrible and she is clearly not in her right mind. She needs to be in a mental institution. But this is Texas so she will probably spend the next 10-15 years on death row before executing her without giving her any help whatsoever for her mental illness.

11. This is truly a case of not guilty by insanity
look it up. This is a real condition. And it speaks of how fucked up our health care system, especially psychiatric care, is.

At the very least not a capital case.
