Rhambo does it AGAIN! Big win for us on Health Care
House Reaches Agreement on Health Bill

The negotiators, including Mr. Ross and Mr. Waxman, said they had agreed to make these changes in the House bill:

¶ Most employers would still be required to provide health insurance to workers or pay a new federal excise tax

¶ Medicaid would be expanded

¶ The government plan would negotiate rates with health care providers, just as private insurers often do.

¶ States could set up nonprofit insurance cooperatives, to offer coverage to individuals, families and small businesses in their states. The Senate Finance Committee is coalescing around a similar idea, but it was not in the original House bill.

29. You should be more worried about the Progressive Caucus.
Edited on Wed Jul-29-09 09:15 PM by Laelth
Its 81 House members will not vote for the bill if it includes the compromises Waxman made with the Blue Dogs. This is in no way a "win."

As per the statement of Co-Chair Lynn Woolsey:

"It's unacceptable," said Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Calif.), co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. "We're not going to vote for anything that doesn't have a robust public plan."

“It has to be much stronger to get our support,” Woolsey said after a meeting with Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who tried to sell them on the deal.

6. Says: government will negotiate pricing with companies/providers.
Government is not going to overpay, no gifts to companies here, we will squeeze them...

9. Negotiating does not mean mandates. Moreover, remember defense spending?
The Gov. pays over and above its fair share all the time.

18. There's no business like the Insurance Business -- they smile
Edited on Wed Jul-29-09 07:37 PM by truedelphi
When we are down.

Even when Katrina's victims had policies galore, the insurers said provisions meant they couldn't score.
You might think health reform is gonna help you heal up that sore,
but what it really means is you must buy from their store...

Yes there's no business but Insurance Business -- they'll enjoy our monies
As we die.
Why would insurers included by Congress' health reform change their bad ways?
They know with their lobbyists they'll get the last say -

Yes there's no business like theirs! <sung to tune of "There's no business like show business!">

Repeat for twenty years, when finally we might make a breakthrough or two.

We have to accept that everyone is not going to get everything they want. It's called compromise.

13. Don't count your chickens before they hatch.
The Progressive Caucus and its 81 members will not vote for the bill if the Waxman compromise with the Blue Dogs is in the final markup of the bill.

24. I think you're mistaken.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/30/us/politics/30health.html
While the federal government would still establish and run a new public health insurance program, to compete with insurers, the new entity would not use Medicare rates to pay doctors and hospitals. Instead, the government plan would negotiate rates with health care providers, just as private insurers often do.

16. Between this and what is in the HELP committee bill, we can accomplish alot
I am thinking the Finance Committee bill is going to lose out to all the good elements we have so far.

I hope the House can voted out of the committee by the end of the week.

20. Is the government plan a public option
or is it co-ops, because co-ops are not competitive, and are not a national public plan.

They can do what they want, and so can anyone else, so it is the choice of people in congress.

But if push comes to shove, if it is meant to protect private insurance and not the people. Everyone will lose.

There is not enough info in that article, nor in day to day news to know if it is good or bad.

We will know when it is up for a vote, and what it contains, and how people vote.

26. Maybe this will help break the insurance companies and they
will be easier targets next time around. By having to compete, they won't have so much money to throw at our congress critters.
