14. I've been there... with my own father

after a three month ICU roller-coaster ride with multiple respiratory or cardiac arrests, followed by short term gains, I was left with that decision. My father's final "gift" to me was letting me avoid voicing this ultimate decision. He went within seconds of my telling him my sister and I would be ok and that it was time to go ahead. Now more than two decades later, I can still remember that day and that time, like it was yesterday.

I know you are numb now, which is probably natures way of helping us deal. It will hit you later and at unexpected times throughout your life. I hope your father can go as peacefully as possible and that you can likewise be at peace.

My heart goes out to you and your family in this trying time.
I just wish to share my own experience with losing a loved one with you.
When my husband died after nine long years of struggling to breath, I was totally heartbroken of course and in a bit of shock even though we had expected it almost daily for nine years. At first I was just numb and I couldnt even cry but fter a few days I finally fell apart and cried all day and that night I cried myself to sleep.
That night I had a dream.
When we were courting, my husband loved to take me dancing and he was a good dancer..later, after he got so ill, he was too frail to even walk and he would sometimes tell me he missed our going out dancing.
In the dream he was standing there in front of me, smiling with his eyes so bright, straight and tall and younger looking and strong again. As soon as he saw me looking at him...he did the little dance movement he used to do when he would ask me to dance.
I suddenly realized I was dreaming and he was there to tell me he was alright. He never spoke nor did I and I woke up right after that.
It was such a wonderful comfort to see him so strong and healthy again and I knew it was ok and I would see him again.
You too will see your loved ones again..and death is not the end.
