Lots of people would like to write LTTE re health care reform, but worry they just aren't great writers, are shy about expressing themselves, have trouble honing their feelings into words...
Let's offer them some inspirational material to get them over their inhibitions.
Get the wheels turning in more heads so more people will make their feelings known to their communities and their Congressional delegations!
Mabye YOU will lead others to a LTTE that will inspire someone to write, or even call into radio/TV talk shows.
If you see good LTTE on the subject, post about it, link to it, quote from it. Help show those who think they can't write a LTTE on this issue that,
yes, they can! We need to empower more to share their thoughts on how heath care issues matters to them, to their community, our nation. Offer up good examples and perhaps more people will write LTTE to conteract the massive lobbyist push we are facing.
Maybe you'll inspire people to become more vocal. Might even get more to write their congressional delegations.
From
today's Tucson Daily Star, there are six great LTTE.
Some quotes:
...
In my instance, I had an angiogram showing I did not need any angioplasty — nevertheless I was prohibited from purchasing health insurance unless it was a group plan. I tried to purchase insurance through a variety of group plans and was rejected from all carriers.
Therefore, I needed to take a job where I could get group coverage. Why? Because I was "at-risk," although in reality I was at less risk than if I had not had the angiogram suggested by my doctor.
...
another LTTE writes:
...
And in Article 1, Section 8: "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States."
To paraphrase, Congress can collect taxes to pay for health care. This assumes that health be considered a component of general welfare, which I don't think is unreasonable.

This chap's letter is short and worthwhile. He closes with:
...
People who have worked hard all of their adult years, not to mention those who have also served their country, are entitled to the peace of mind that comes knowing that health care is a given.
This one, written by a veteran who knows government run health care (VA) works, makes a great point about the issues scare mongers use to intimidate people about health care reform. Smart fellow. He sees the weapon lobbyists use and takes it right out of their hands simply by pointing out what is already happening to people. This veteran is still a warrior. He is still fighting for Americans. Personally, I would like to thank him for his past service, and his
continuing service to our nation. :patriot:
Dreaded change already under way
More Americans are losing their health coverage and small businesses will continue to close with rising costs every day while this debate goes on.
...
There you go, hesitant LTTE writers. Some examples of how people just like you can make really important contributions to the discussion and help the effort to get better health care options for all Americans.
DU, show them more examples. What was in your morning paper that serves to enrich and widen participation in the discussion?
Post 'em if you got 'em.
