British review: No difference between water and iced tea
A British review of several years of studies has determined that there is no difference between water and iced tea.

The study found that the functional use of each are exactly the same. "The human body needs hydration and both of these do that." an industry spokesperson who had read the review stated. The British review did not consider if there was any difference between water and water with an additive.

The spokesperson who read the review added, "Basically either one is the same. No need to drink water really." The newly created food policy consumer activism group known as the "CDC" (CargillDanielsConAgra) said in a statement that they agreed with their spokesperson.

Organic food producers, gardeners, health conscience people, "medical" people, nutritionists, dietitians, and anyone with a brain were contacted for this story but their responses would defeat the purpose of news coverage of the review.

10. My kids grew up drinking unsweetened iced tea. It's our favorite drink
with a wedge of lemon, of course:)

2. Yes, the pushing of water instead of other liquids is bullshit.
They all have water in them.

9. Caffeine is a diruetic. So, not the same as drinking water alone. nt

13. That's What Water Enthusiasts Say
and I'm sure it's true. What's not clear is how strong the diuretic effect is compared to the hydration effect of the iced tea.

16. bingo
ALL the ingredients might matter, not just the water.

Sodas have water too, but the other things in them tend to leach calcium out of bones. Not real smart for growing children or aging women.

19. L. Ron Hubbard wrote a book about that.
Or did you mean diuretic?

As I said, one need not drink as much water as the water lobbyists consistently pronounce. We get water from anything that has water in it.

Part of the role water plays in the body is keeping the urinary tract flowing. Tea does that.

You incorrectly conclude that a liquid's diuretic qualities are a negative. They're not.

21. Yep, we get lots of water from food.
The myth of 8 glasses of water a day came through a misunderstanding when some government report recommended that amount but that includes water we get from food. Nobody needs to drink that much water.

23. True. Drinking too much water can actually kill a person.
We are designed not to drink a lot of water, but to get a lot of water from fruit and veggies.

I only know that a nurse at the local blood center told me not to drink caffeine before giving blood, because it dehydrates a person, making it harder to find one's veins.

27. Tea can be a problem. Here's Snopes on the issue of our water needs.

That's a good discussion of the myths that surround the marketing of the notion that we should drink lots of water every day. A litre, yes. More? Probably not.

8. It's what plants crave!
The other day I saw a woman at the vending machine in our office building, frantically searching the machine for something with electrolytes in it... as if it was halftime of the WNBA finals, rather than her coffee break from the cubicle.

I almost told her that they sell Brawndo at the drugstore next door, but decided not to.

4. Iced tea is good, often water gets monotonous
The little bit of taste in the tea makes a difference.

Though I usually only drink two glasses a day, want to keep the caffeine down. Tea, unlike coffee, is not a diuretic so you're not losing liquid volume by drinking it.

I like mine with a lemon wedge and no sweet tea. :P

On the other hand, a British review finding no difference between American beer and water would not be newsworthy.

12. My father recently had kidney stones and Doc said the
Iced tea was responsible.

My dad drinks pretty much only iced tea when at home. I'll bet he downs a 1/2 gal or more a day. When my dad got the kidney stones this past week, the doc told him that he'd had kidney stones in the past from drinking alot of teas too.

Everything in moderation I guess.

15. Wow -- I Didn't Know That
you are correct:

Iced tea contains high concentrations of oxalate, one of the key chemicals that lead to the formation of kidney stones, a common disorder of the urinary tract that affects about 10 percent of the population in the United States.

"For many people, iced tea is potentially one of the worst things they can drink," said Dr. John Milner, instructor, department of urology, Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, Maywood, Ill. "For people who have a tendency to form kidney stones, it's definitely one of the worst things you can drink."

and Science Daily goes even further. They are not on board with the British review.

26. I had a case of suspected kidney stones a few years ago.
I had been drinking large quantities of iced tea the day before while trimming some shrubbery in 90 degree heat.

I was told dehydration and iced tea are 2 things that can trigger kidney stones.

28. I've been told they have no fucking idea what really causes kidney stones
I pass them every 30-45 days for over 20 years. I've been put on every treatment, every elimination diet, etc. Except for uric acid stones, they really have no fucking idea what causes the stones.

I'm having another glass of tea.
