Are the Republican tactics against Universal health care working?
In my opinion the Repubs are being successful in their onslaught on Obama's health care plans. The minute I saw the phony ad which I'm sure you've all seen, made with the lying Canadian, Shona Holmes, I feared his plans were in trouble. This ad, where Shona says she would have died in Canada with a brain cancer because the government wouldn't allow her timely treatment is a bald-faced lie. In the first place she didn't have a brain tumor!. What she had (and the reason why she was given a few months to wait in Canada) was a condition called Rathke's Cleft Cyst, on her pituitary gland. "Rathke's Cleft Cysts are not true tumors or neoplasms; instead they are benign cysts." The medical community in Ontario, where she lives, knew this and scheduled other, urgent cases ahead of her for surgery....which is quite reasonable.
Not only is this TV ad being played all over the U.S.A., but she has been interviewed on Fox TV and other places, spewing her lies. I have also read that she is allied with some group in Ontario that wants to get private health insurance going here.
I believe that many of your citizens, who are not as politically aware as those here on DU, have connected in their minds, this supposed terrible treatment of Canadians with the health plan Pres. Obama is championing and that is why approval of his plan is falling in the polls. The American public is probably being scared off. They don't want to suffer the fate of those poor Canadians! :scared:
Why don't the Democrats or someone who is for Obama's plans, respond to Shona's lies with the truth?

12. What we will get will bear no resemblance to what we want or thought would result. But something
will be passed and it will be called Good, because it was Promised. Promise kept, move along.

It's not that the Republicans are trying to kill health care outright, but game the system so that the final bill eliminates the public option, eliminates the employer mandate, drastically cuts subsidies, but keeps the individual mandate -- then have the Democrats decide that any bill is better than failing to pass one, and so approve a plan that will essentially give the insurance companies the right to siphon out our pockets, backed by federal mandates. Result: people won't get better health care, will wind up getting hurt financially (I can hardly wait until we get the first families having to lose their homes because of "mandated" insurance premiums)...and the "big-government liberal" Democrats will get the blame. :-(

7. I don't think anything the Republicans are doing is affecting the Health Care bill.
It's the blue dogs dealing under the table with the insurance & pharmaceutical companies that are killing this. The idea that the American people are being swayed by GOP fear mongering is bullshit. The same goes for the excuse that phone calls are running against this bill. It's bullshit! It's an excuse to cover the real reason universal health care is failing. Certain members of the Senate are killing this bill because they've been bought off.

8. Of course their tactics are working
They are unconstrained by the truth. Their lies are dutifully and credulously passed on by the op-ed channels.

Telling the truth is a sucker's game in America.

10. Your right - the rw is working with tv ads - they used them against al gore
and john kerry and saw how effective they are - they are using FEAR to get the old people - I saw this mess when visiting california a couple of years ago and the proposal was for payments from oil companies to the state - like canada has and Alaska and Texas have - they were so sucessful the californians voted against themselves and now look at the mess they are in

They are doing a lot of FEAR - and that REpublican leader in Congress with his color power ties - looks like a snake oil salesman - they have all kinds of scandals but walk away unscathed - look at Bush and Cheney broke the law and they are off scot free -

now with this race thing they are coming up with - all the rest of the rednecks will be with them too

I need a sponsor to move to Canada and have health care because this country does not care about people.

11. A well orchistrated attack...
The republicans will say anything and do anything to destroy real heath care reform. They will stand on the floor of the House and Senate and lie to the cameras. They will spend millions of Insurance cartel dollars buying advertising time to spread fear and confusion. Talk radio and the MSM will flood the public air waves with free propaganda. Countless conservative war rooms will send out millions of completely insane emails to poison the discussion. This is the republican way and it works.

When are we going to wise up? This is right out of the republican playbook. When you see the number of gullible folks willing to swallow the birther, tea bagger, and snuffer crocks of shit its obvious we really have our work cut out for us.

We need to mount the same kind of well organized assault on these lies. Show the republican party to be the slimy bastards they truly are. We need to donate money to get the truth on the air, we need to talk to friends and neighbors, we need to volunteer to do what it takes to pass meaningful health care.

If we can't unite behind our president then we deserve what we get - a republican sponsored health care bill.
