Do you feel it cause I do....
Edited on Thu Jul-30-09 02:34 PM by Aviation Pro
...the President - you know the same guy who masterfully won the Presidency in spite of all the shit thrown at him - is patiently and yet forcefully turning the tide on the health care reform debate.

I suspect that he is going to get what he wants and sign a bill that will be placed in the same pantheon as Social Security in terms of landmark legislation. (And as a by-product say goodbye in 2010 to the Republicants and at least one Blue Dogbreath who painfully tried to protract the inevitable).

But my crystal ball is notoriously flawed. Perhaps yours is better.

4. I can't tell if we're on the verge of winning or if everything is about to spin out of control
with the way every little development is breathlessly reported around here as the be-all-end-all of the process. The other day people were calling for pitchforks and torches after Baucus' committee said they were going to strike the public option from their version of the bill. Yesterday everybody was excited because the Blue Dogs supposedly caved, and today the progressive caucus is saying Waxman is doing a bad job.

With all this "Breaking news!!!11!1" it's a wonder we haven't all had heart attacks. I just think we're still in the sixth inning and anything can happen.

5. And to extend the baseball analogy further....
...the pitcher is still the President and he's throwing high heat and all you hear are the sounds of whiffing by the Republicants and the Blue Dogbreaths and the "Steeeeeeerike three, yer out!" by the umpire (that would be us, the people).

20. As a project manager my feeling is based....
...on what I have to deal with on a daily basis working with a diverse set of internal customers on four continents with their cultural biases. The President on a much, much grander scale is doing exactly what I do to move a major implementation forward.

So your unrec based on your feelings is way off base.

But thanks for owning up to it.

29. We've been through this UNrec debate ad nauseum. It's now part of the DU culture
and does not require an explanation by the UNreccer, Aviation Pro. Personally, I HATE the UNrec feature, but for you to go off on the UNreccer is certainly not in the spirit that Skinner and Co. have tried to cultivate here.

I don't feel the way you do regarding President Obama's actions. I hope you're right though.

44. If a thread isn't the best, the sensible response
...Is to ignore it. Unrec is much different. It actively marks a thread as bad or unworthy.

I wish people wouldn't think every thread that is not the greatest ever needs to be unreced. Why not just ignore it?

I was marking it as unworthy.

hero worship fluff, no substance. (see image below that the OP posted, promoting the blind faith/don't question our leader line of thought. Ick.)

10. No, and you feel the way you do based on exactly what?
I base my feelings on how things actually are and not how I would really, really like them to be. My guess is that as far as numbers in Congress go this will be the best there ever will be for Obama. Republicans will make gains in 2010 unless there is landmark legislation and I don't think Democrats in congress will provide landmark legislation for him to sign. Unless he draws a line in the sand and vetoes anything that is a watered down version of what he wants, then Republicans have a clear blueprint of how to keep Obama in check.

13. And I respectfully disagree.....
...again the President's track record on tackling hard problems is nothing short of remarkable. The salient fact of the matter is that he is the manager's manager and the leader's leader and many here - good Democrats all - still underestimate his considerable talents. This picture, used during the campaign, says it all:

26. The beef is the patience that the President uses....
...as a sledgehammer. Over the course of the last six months he has allowed the Republicants to emasculate themselves on a number of occasions and come out stronger.

The stakes are higher but I have no doubt he will be judged the winner of the debate (and we will get reform).

28. The important thing is bi-partisanship
Health care reform is meaningless without it.

Why, I wouldn't even want it if we couldn't get a handful of Republicans on board.

Even if health care reform fails, at least we can agree that Baucus and Grassley make a cute couple. And what's wrong with that?

27. I feel it. I really do. I see more and more things about the public
wanting health care reform. It's just a feeling that this desire for decent health reform seems to be growing with the people. I just this minute got done watching the 53 members of this new Democrat coalition of representatives who will not vote for a reform bill that does not have a "robust public option". And they say that there are other representatives that feel as strongly as they do. And they are fighting the blue dogs. They also stated that they do not need any Republican votes to get this done.

I also sense more interest in this from friends and family. As I previously said - I sense movement in the right direction. Maybe I can't point to anything specific, but it's there.

32. Being reality based makes me say no. Knowing that the first six months make or break a presidency
makes me say no. You think the world is going to remain static and Obama will have three and half more years to deal with this one issue? Everything else has been on hold but that cannot and must not last. The real world will place demands on his time and efforts and not allow him to dwell on this one issue. Reality awaits, and bites.
