I wonder if Officer Crowley's kids will go to Harvard
Think he'll ask Gates or Obama for references and possibly a discount?

1. Depending on one's family income...
Harvard can be relatively affordable.

"In December 2007, Harvard introduced a new financial aid plan that dramatically reduces the amount families with incomes below $180,000 are expected to pay. Families with incomes above $120,000 and below $180,000 with assets typical for these income levels are asked to contribute 10 percent of their incomes. For those families with incomes below $120,000, the parent contribution declines steadily from 10 percent, reaching zero for those with incomes at $60,000 and below. "

9. Or connected.
That's how Bush got into three of the most exclusive schools on earth.

11. Yeah, but his family paid for it
GP's point is that Harvard's admission is more or less need-blind, and once you're in they find a way for you to afford it.

3. Doubt it.

This racist hick's kids will probably have a hard time getting into anywhere. Maybe one of the Christers can home school them through college.

Seriously though. This is a prime example when you pit an educated person like Gates against a bigoted person like Crowley. Education always comes out on top. We need to pass legislation that promises all people a four year college education. Period. It's just that important.

4. Not all people are intelligent enough for 4 years of college...
and not all professions require it.

I know it sounds horrible for me to say this. We need janitors, sanitation workers, and other similar professions in this world. There is no reason for janitors to have to go to college.

12. Most people would do fine in college. You don't need to be a genius
to do well or to benefit from a four year college education.

13. The way college is now, you barely have to be literate.

10. I don't know where to start here
This racist hick's kids

I'll not start the "was he racist" argument again, but this guy isn't a hick.

will probably have a hard time getting into anywhere.

WTF makes you say that? They could be geniuses for all you know.

Maybe one of the Christers can home school them through college.

Umm... you know Cambridge is a Unitarian-founded city, right?

We need to pass legislation that promises all people a four year college education. Period. It's just that important.

I'd love for us to promise to pay for it, sure. But not everybody needs or wants to go to college. I'd love to see trade schools and apprenticeships presented as options more to kids in high school.

5. who gives a shit?
Why don't you just go whole hog and "wonder" if Crowley beats his wife, keeps his mother locked in a closet in the basement, eats babies and uses puppies and kittens for target practice? Might as well get it all out of your system in one fell swoop so the rest of us won't have to keep hiding your threads about all the stupid crap you "wonder" about him just to make sure we haven't forgotten that you'd like to see him swinging from a tree by the neck.

Meanwhile, I'll wonder why you and sooooooo many others have chosen to vent a thousand times more wrath at this cop while virtually ignoring the ones that were caught on video plotting how to frame a person for DUI, the cop that shoved a taser in a suspect's ass and threatened to taser his balls, or the cop that tasered the blind disabled guy and so many more cop abuse of power stories that have been posted here at the same time and are so much more heinous than the Gates/Crowley story that they aren't even in the same abuse of power universe.

6. I think all cop abuses of power are abhorrent.
The ones you've mentioned as well as officer Crowley's. Crowley may not have shoved a taser up Gates' ass, but that doesn't make what he did any less sickening. He deserves to lose his job just as the others you've mentioned.
