I was sick, in the hospital, but I realize I was LUCKY we need to add options to have recover time |
|
I have good insurance
but...
I am a teacher and it is summer so I did not miss any days of work and I still get paid
I don't have the strength do even put in an hour in my classroom to get it ready for the school year, but I have the luxury of putting in the hours I want to at my own speed.
additionally, I realize that not everyone has that luxury. Some people that get sick miss work and do not get paid and could even lose their jobs
we need to not only get national health insurance but also a way to help those who need time to recuperate

1. Yes, and then they lose the job and the insurance all while sick. |
|
What a crappy situation. Its about time to join forces and demand jobs that bring the entire country forward to this century.. Vacation/ sick time off (you can't tell me its hurt the Europeans all that much to have their mandatory 4 weeks off of vacation.. they seem to have survived and not all the jobs disapeard)... A biggy for women would be maternity leave that also pays while out (include men in this option for maternity time off with new baby to help out and we might actually get it). All of these things would bring our lives much more happiness.

2. We also need to find a balance between guiding doctors and |
|
allowing them to determine how long a patient needs to stay hospitalized. People shouldn't treat the hospital as a spa, but one person can be ready to go home in a day and maybe the next one needs a week.

5. I hope you're doing better now greenbriar... |

Everyone understands how hard you teachers work to get your classroom ready for the year. That is a lot of work. I know your students, and the parents will appreciate all of your efforts.
I'm glad you have some time to ease into work. Like you said, you can go in for a bit and take many days to get set up. Just take it easy and don't over exert yourself!

4. With both of my c-sections--I went home less than 48 hours... |
|
...after surgery.
I really think that was too soon. You've just had major abdominal surgery, and you have an infant. It was very difficult.
I noticed this too, when I had back surgery. You felt so rushed and pressured to get the hell out the door.
Maybe hospitals should just install drive-thrus?

6. I had six kids. For some, I could have hopped off the delivery |
|
table and walked home with the kid. For others, I should have stayed a week. With my first, both the baby and I were exhausted from the flu I'd had just a few a weeks before delivery. Still, it was 48 hours and out.

7. I had one of mine before noon and.. |
|
was at the mall buying baby stuff in the afternoon. Baby was required to stay three days. That wasn't a good thing, because it gave me time to forget I had to get up in the middle of the night to feed her.

9. here's what i like.... whenever i hear of a congressperson in the hospital |
|
and it doesn't even have to be much of anything... they are there for like two weeks. i have a baby and am out in two days.... though, last time i refused to stay another day... i wanted to go home. but generally, you are there, have the baby and are home in two days.... with my first i could barely walk i had stitches and it was tough. then you get six weeks (i guess we should be lucky we get that) before we have to go back to work.

8. I've always wondered if you live on Greenbriar. |
|
I lived in West U. for many years, so I'm familiar with Greenbriar and the entire area between the Med Center, Rice University, West U., Bellaire, and back to the Astrodome area. Of course, Greenbriar in right in the middle of that.
When you mention teaching, I think about the schools in that area - West U., Bellaire, Pershing, Lamar, among others.
I have friends and relatives who teach in HISD.
As for your topic, YES, we need to allow people to get well when they're ill. I am shocked at how quickly they want the recently ill to get up, get out, and get busy.
