Texas Gov. Perry mocks Sen. Hutchison for stepping down
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/homepage/story/72679.html

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Gov. Rick Perry said he might move up the date of the special election to replace Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison because too many important things are going on in Washington.

After months of speculation, Hutchison confirmed Wednesday that she plans to resign her Senate seat to run for governor sometime around October or November.

Perry mocked Hutchison's announcement, and suggested he wasn't convinced she would actually step down from her position.

"For us not to have someone in the United States Senate looking after Texas interests, I think, is irresponsible," Perry said. "Maybe the Senator should think about that rather than the other things she’s thinking about."

When told by a reporter that Hutchison had remarked that 15 years in the governor's mansion is too long for one person, Perry said, "I guess 15 years in the United States Senate is not too long."

3. I'm just thankful that Texas has special elections and not Governor-appointed replacements!
Honest to God, I don't know ONE person in Texas -- including Repubs, Dems and Indys -- who will admit to having ever voted for Perry the Clown.

He's just another Karl Rove creation -- and another former cheerleader. Karl must have a thing for cheerleaders.

5. (groan) Cripe, we have to listen to shit head Perry now thru the end of the election.
throwing this kind of asinine statements to the press just because he can.
Where in the world does the GOP find the likes of Perry/Bush and why do they always end up in policy making positions?

Perry wouldn't make it selling anything down on Harry Hines Blvd.
I've lived in Texas 5 yrs now.
I cannot believe they actually chose a poser like Perry to represent this state.

Was there no one else on the ballot that day?
I try to ignore the politics of this state but every time Perry opens his mouth or shows his face on TV I just cannot comprehend the low mentality of the Texas voters.

Some days I feel like an alien living here.
People just accept the way this state is under the Texas GOP & call this a really great place.
wtf? their education system is on the bottom of the list & the air they breath is polluted without objection so the polluters can profit and buy themselves a seat in the Texas gov't

Maybe the next governor will be of a more reasonable mindset. Really wouldn't really take much effort to surpass Perry on that.
sheesh!

8. Four on the ballot in 2006
Perry, Bell, Friedman and Strayhorn? Perry won with something like 30% of the vote.

6. I don't like KBH, but she's a friggin' giant compared to Gov Good Hair.
He's dumb and he's rightwing in that stupid kind of way.

KBH at least has some votes that are not heinous. Perry is a jerk who should never have held high office, even in Texas.

9. Beauty pageants are different in the south I think. Not like in Idaho.
Its a REALLY big deal in the south. I would think that in KBH's day it was the the proper thing for a girl to do. A social thing, a rite of passage, like coming out parties & the Southern Belle thing.

I could be way off on this, however, its just an observation.
I grew up in the north & I don't recall pageants being the defining moment of a girls youth.

Beauty Pageants mean a whole different thing in the southern states.

10. May have been, but she was legit newscaster, and that was her claim to fame.
I remember when she was on the news, and she wasn't bad. She met Ray Hutchinson, then a powerful Texas GOP State Rep. They married and she took his name, becoming Kay Bailey Hutchinson.

17. Texas Cheerleaders...
Kay Bailey was a UofTexas cheerleader...Rick Perry was a Texas A&M cheerleader (make that Yell Leader)...and Geo. Bush was a cheerleader up east somewhere. We luv our airheads.

11. I'd like to see someone throw him a one-two punch:
Lob him what seems to be a softball asking him whether he thinks KBH has let her constituants down by bailing on finishing out her term. How can he resist the bait? Then in the context of his prior answer, follow up with a question about Sarah Palin.
