quit watching. a 12 step program for you
1. Quit watching any FoxNews

2. Quit watching CNN

3. Quit watching MSNBC

4. Quit watching any corporate news like ABC/CBS, etc.

5. Quit watching corporate entertainment for the bloated masses

6. Hug your family

7. Take a walk in the neighborhood

8. Read a book for some perspective on this brief moment in history of earth, a tiny planet at the edge of the universe

9. Write your feelings down about what you want out of this life before your years are up

10. Choose the biggest one to focus on first

11. Start living life the way you want and stop reacting to these highly paid professional rabble rousers

12. Thank your lucky stars you stopped watching that crappy TV "news".

6. I like that. We have cut out TV "News" watching to almost zero and we feel better.
In motels they have the morning garbage shows (CNN, Fox "News", MSNBC) on in the breakfast area and it is amazing how much worse it is to us now. We still watch some local "news" sometimes (once/week) but at 6:30 we switch it off. That's when the idiots Couric, Gibson and Williams start their stupid shows.

During football season, we watch our favorite college team. No problem except the garbage at halftime which we ignore.

9. Ed, KO, Rachel should form their own news network.
Progressive TV has a nice ring to it.

12. It's really easier than that to stop watching. I used to watch 60 Minutes, Prime Time, 20/20,
48 Hours, etc., ad nauseum.

Then my husband started watching Sunday night football, Monday Night Football, Tuesday night football if he could find a game. The same for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays.

When, praise the powers that be, football season would finally be over, I'd get to watch 60 Minutes and 20/20 again. Sometimes I'd even catch Prime Time and/or 48 Hours.

My son got old enough to want to control the box, which meant less time for me to watch what I wanted to watch.

I would insist on two shows: Northern Exposure and whatever Star Trek frachise show was on. DH loved Northern Exposure; both DH and son watched Star Trek.

I was incredibly bored by most of their television choices and would read a book while they watched.

Pretty soon, I found that I didn't get ANY choices on what we watch and I read more (HELP! I need more bookshelves! And maybe two more rooms to put the bookshelves in.)

Then I found that I simply could not indulge in the mindless activity of watching the tube any more.

All I had to do to stop watching was to get me a family.

13. By and large gave up ALL M$M not long into the installation of Bush/Cheney
...and we've never watched much mainstream 'must see' programming anyway. If it's a "reality" show, or has a laugh track, it's prolly not on when our tube is switched on. And we never watch any sports. Any. We're very bad Americans :)

15. TV is a hypnotic drug
Unfortunately way too many people are in denial as to its power and how much influence it has on every facet of their lives.

17. I still watch plenty of news and docs without watching any of that swill.
It was actually fun trying to figure out a way to get good information presented by sane people and stay on top of the day's stories. There's so much more out there in the indy media.
