Economic Report: 64 Million U.S. Women Have Struggled To Pay Medical Bills

http://www.laborradio.org/node/11651

Economic Report:

Seven out of 10 working age women have either no health care coverage or inadequate coverage. That works out to 64 million women who have experienced problems paying medical bills or have limited access to health care because of cost. Those are findings in a report issued by the Commonwealth Fund which found that women tend to have lower average incomes then men, but they also have higher out-of-pocket costs. It is worth noting that the numbers cited in the study are from 2007 and have likely changed due to the recession.

1. This is totally unacceptable, but I don't think people in Congress
really care.

A battery of recommended tests every year (sometimes 6 months depending on the woman), with more added as we age. The inconvienent reality of the uterus: Pregnancy, childbirth, menopause and beyond. Our docs tend to look at us as cash cows anyway. Something like 30% of births in the US wind up as major surgery (as of around 1990 when I researched this stuff when I had my first). The european rates of caesarian and hysterectomy are lower than ours.

Women are expensive, we tend to work low-paying part-time jobs, and our profit margin is not good. We are inconvient. They probably wouldn't cover any of us if they could get away with it.
