How about giving America the healthcare it deserves? |
|
If this country can't get behind single payer or public option or mandatory coverage, or anything that could regulate reimbursement policies, etc., then how about just embracing American style healthcare. No deduction for employer healthcare, and no expectation of it.
Insurance companies can analyze your genome before deciding what to charge you and what preconditions will be excluded. If you have a health problem without insurance, the doctor can give you a quote, just like an electrician or a plumber, and if it's too high, go for more quotes. Just hope the ambulance takes you to the right place (and doesn't decide to charge more than you can pay).
Pharma companies can have permanent patents and charge monopoly prices on everything - since it's life or death, these prices will be pretty high. In the endgame, everyone will end up paying as much for healthcare as can possibly be squeezed out. Our country will spend 50% or more on healthcare with an average life expectancy of 59, and with 60% uninsured. Maybe then we can reopen the discussion with the Blue Dogs, and those bashing Obamacare will be quiter.
