I am having a blistering battle on a health insurance debate. This guy is typical republican. What is ironic is he is probably uninsurable. He is turning 60 6"5" tall close to 300lbs and has had prostate cancer. Does anyone out there know if this guy would be insurable?

3. in NJ yes, in TX probably not. |
|
Really depends on the state he lives in more than anything else since insurance regulations are currently set on a state by state basis.
The height/weight aren't deal breakers. The funny is that the prostate cancer isn't a deal breaker but the age is ( in terms of premiums ) but if he was significantly younger the prostate cancer would be and age wouldn't.
prostate cancer is one of those things that every male is going to get if they just live long enough...getting it at his age isn't all that bad in terms of health insurance premiums/qualifying, getting in your 20's would be a deal breaker for most insurance companies.
Oh, and the premium in Nj would be somewhere north of 15k a year.

4. If he is continuously insured by a group plan, he should be fine. |
|
But that can often be much easier said than done by the age of 60.

5. There are plans called guaranteed issue, but they |
|
will not cover anything that is a preexisting condition for at least one year and they are very expensive.
Medicare will cover him when he turns 65, but the for-profit companies would rather not take a risk to their profits by covering people with known serious health issues.

7. Of course he is insurable |

There are probably lots of companies who will cash his premium checks. Now if he actually expects them to pay on a claim --
