Anyone else notice that the rec feature adds more than one vote when you use it? |
|
Been seeing this for the last 2 weeks. This am, I clicked on one thread that had 6 votes, my one click turned it to 24 votes, another thread one click added 7 votes instead of one, etc. But no addtions to the coments lines, so I don't think it is because 6 other people or 23 other people clicked at exactly the same time. sometimes only one vote is added, as is normal, other times many are added. Time of day does not seem to matter.
Dunno..is it just me?

9. I kinda ruled that out,as I said, |
|
because the number jumps so high, so what are the odds of 8 people hitting rec at the same time. One click changed a rec from 9 to 24. In a nono second. And btw...just a minute ago, I hit "unrec" on a thread that had 103 recs, and the number changed to 105 recs. As you know, the numbers change instantly. Seems weird to me, but from the replies I am getting, it is just me that is seeing it, so.....EOM.

This is the kind of error that I sometimes get, even if the thread is on top with many additions, the OP has been more than 24 hours.

6. You're seeing the vote change because others are voting, too. |
|
Edited on Fri Jul-31-09 08:29 AM by TexasObserver
The vote you see is as old as the last moment preceding your arriving at GD. So while you think the vote you see is the instant before you vote, it's not. It relates back to the moment you logged into GD, unless you refresh the GD page after reading each thread.

11. How long a span was there between the time you |
|
opened the thread and the time you hit the rec button? There is a possibility that you were not the only du'er reading and recommending that message at that time.
Try relosding/refreshing the page before you hit recommend and see if the jumps in the rec count don't calm down a bit.

14. I've noticed the same thing ever since I've been able to rec |
|
not just in the past few weeks, and I always just thought it was that other people were hitting the rec button the same time I was. I mean, people don't necessarily have to post in order to rec, do they?
Along the same lines, I'll notice that a thread has "X" number of replies and by the time I write out even a title line and post it with no text, there are five, six, ten...more replies as well as my own.
The same thing happens on other discussion boards I post on as well, so I don't think there's a big plot afoot here.... ;)

|
this is not widely known, but there are tens of users here at DU LOL
Often I will find a thread that has just been posted, and, feeling that mine is the only reply, only to hit post and suddenly there were 10 posts before mine .... usually saying the same thing that I did.

As everyone tests to see if they add multiple recs when they recommend. A very slick way to get recs....very slick indeed.

2 people clicking at around the same time is more likely.

|
It's just a coincidence. Hundreds or thousands of other people are reading the OP at the same time you are, and some of them are hitting the Rec button at almost the same time.

Sometimes I will be recommending and someone will be recommending so it shows 2 recs.
Or, as I am reading the thread, someone has recommended and when I go back to OP to recommend, the screen is refreshed and shows my vote and the one that came in while I was reading.

In my experience, there's an inverse relationship between recomends and comments. If lots of people comment on a thread, it's because it's controversial.
