Just A Thought - The Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon Is Coming Up........ |
|
right before the end of the Congressional recess. I know that there always seems to be a lot of criticism of this event from all perspectives. But this year - because of Health Reform - will this event take on a special role?
Jerry Lewis has been raising money for this cause since 1966. I couldn't find the total amount he's raised since the inception - but it has to be big.
I imagine that a lot of that money went to parents that either didn't have adequate insurance or were dropped from insurance or covered items and services that insurance just doesn't cover.
Seems to me that this event would be a perfect forum to promote 'healthcare reform'.
I don't think I've ever see United Healthcare, BC/BS, etc as being sponsors or donors to this event.
I'm just curious - will this event play well for health care reform proponents or for the opponents? or neither?

1. I think the point of needing health care reform will be lost on some. |

Just like it is on those who may go to these fundraising events to help pay for specialized medical treatments for a loved one. Every time I see one of these posters hanging somewhere for a dance, chili supper, what have you I have two emotions. One, I feel truly sorry for the people that are going through this ordeal; the patient as well as friends and family members. Two, in what is supposedly the greatest country on earth this simply should not be happening. There should be no need for things like this.
