2. Not just stimulus.
As distasteful as the bailouts were it is clear that it was the correct course of action. Also bringing the interest rates down so low, Bernanke deserves a lot of credit.

As Paul Krugman said, the '70s actually reaffirmed Keynes.

3. There's No Way We Could Have Let The Banks Fail
Edited on Fri Jul-31-09 11:56 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
There would have been a run on the banks and the FDIC would have paid out money it would never get back because there would no more banks.

I have always been and always will be a Keynesian. I hope this shuts the morans up once and for all. It won't, I know. But I can hope.

8. No. But, the deck chairs are more tastefully arranged and ice is available.
Signs say the worst is yet to come when the bills for the bailouts come due and the country's too broke to pay them.

14. 7..8..9...
The Chinese are stilling manning the pumps for us but they're getting weary and manning their own lifeboats. The ones we sold them.

The only thing keeping our economy afloat (sort-of) is the Chinese willingness to buy our debt...for their own reasons. Namely, keeping the dollar artificially overvalued because they have so many of them. But, they are slowly and cautiously divesting themselves of said dollars by buying up resources world wide and investing in Euros.

In the meantime, we keep spending more and, in effect, printing more money to cover our debts.

It's a house of cards (to use another metaphor).

Those signs? Glad you're doing smashingly though.

20. A very concise version of most of the thinking around here nowadays.
There is no good news EVER, and if there IS good news, it has to be spun any way possible to make it bad news.

We prefer just to have our overwhelming medical debts push us toward poverty without any additional help from credit cards.

22. Still waiting to see any signs of recovery here
Just because the criminal soulless vampires at Goldmine Sucks are making more profit than ever does not mean any REAL economic recovery has yet taken place.

Nor did I expect any this soon, after the level of damage done by the Chimp.
