Innovation: Mexico City offering free health insurance to visitors

"In a first-of-its-kind move, Mexico City will now automatically cover tourists with free health insurance for emergencies. If you're a tourist and you come down with a disease or have an accident while visiting the city, you are automatically covered."

There you go... if you think you are coming down with something, get thee to Mexico City!

1. Mexico still has private insurance available

but they're working hard on making their national insurance universal. Their next goal is to cover all pregnant women, even campesinas, by 2011.

There's a lot to admire about that country. If they'd only realize the pittance of money they're getting for the drug war isn't worth the carnage, they'll really be on their way.
