Corporations, Capitalism, and Conservatism - A Few Provocative Questions |
|
Do you believe that corporations are generally politically conservative entities?
If so, do you believe that the promotion of capitalism is an inherently conservative action?
If so, do you believe that the job of the Democratic Party is to refute the promotion of capitalism because you assume that to be a politically conservative action?
I'm sure that there are many nuances within these questions - what are your stances on these issues?

1. Restrained capitalism is a Democratic ideal |
|
Unrestricted ("free market") capitalism is the Republican ideal.

1- For the most part yes. But not always, "Green" companies are left leaning I believe. 2- Mostly yes... it is the main theme of their agenda. 3-No, Capitalism serves it's purpose, and is important, and the Democrats rely on it too for contributions, so they won't entirely bite the hand. But some forms of capitalism like health insurance are not on a true leftists list of allies, or shouldn't be... Hell it's a toughy, but a good thought provoker.

3. Corporations don't promote capitalism, they just want to make as |
|
much money as possible. Which normally means gaining a monopoly, hindering the free market, exploiting employees as much as the law allows, paying as little taxes as the law allows, lobbying for laws that contribute to them doing all of the fore mentioned.
The job of our elected representatives should be to stop those actions if they become a problem for the greater good of society. However we have this little problem with our system where all these corporations are allowed to lobby to no end to achieve the opposite. So the representatives pretend to stop these actions while pocketing all the cash and then blame the opposing party on why they weren't able to change anything.

4. Even if most corporations are politically conservative entities ... |
|
... it doesn't mean they are innately conservative. If the people who run corporations can be convinced that liberalism is better for business, corporations will become liberal entities.

5. No to all of your questions |
|
Corporations are inherently apolitical and will support any political party they think will take actions that help their bottom lines.
The promotion of authoritarianism is the inherently conservative action. What the rightwing wants is fascism, not capitalism.
I consider capitalism to be a historically liberal position and the best foundation for a socialistic economy
