'03 Bush To Chirac: 'Gog & Magog are at work in the Middle East-this confrontation is willed by God"

A French Revelation, or The Burning Bush
JAMES A. HAUGHT

Incredibly, President George W. Bush told French President Jacques Chirac in early 2003 that Iraq must be invaded to thwart Gog and Magog, the Bible’s satanic agents of the Apocalypse.

Honest. This isn’t a joke. The president of the United States, in a top-secret phone call to a major European ally, asked for French troops to join American soldiers in attacking Iraq as a mission from God.

Now out of office, Chirac recounts that the American leader appealed to their “common faith” (Christianity) and told him: “Gog and Magog are at work in the Middle East…. The biblical prophecies are being fulfilled…. This confrontation is willed by God, who wants to use this conflict to erase his people’s enemies before a New Age begins.”

This bizarre episode occurred while the White House was assembling its “coalition of the willing” to unleash the Iraq invasion. Chirac says he was boggled by Bush’s call and “wondered how someone could be so superficial and fanatical in their beliefs.”

3. Why do fundamentalists fear the Apocalypse and fight against it?
They're all supposed to be swept up into the skies to join Jesus while the non-believers and not-as-good-Christians are left here to deal with the anti-Christ, which is of course, Obama.

These people are constitutionally unable to be directors of their own lives and write their own scripts.

5. The biggest suprise is that he told this to Chirac
Edited on Thu Aug-06-09 09:51 AM by PRETZEL
we all knew it here. Bush had repeatedly intimated his beliefs.

Many books that followed had the same. It was mostly a matter of whether or not you believed that his beliefs were that strong. It may be appearing that they were.

7. My Dad says that kind of crazy shit, then claims to be speaking metaphorically when called out.
I don't think they're using Scripture because they believe in it, but only to gain what they want - for BushCo*, war in the ME, huge profits for the MIC and control over lots of oil. In my Dad's case, it's to shut down and win an argument because "It's What God Wants," but I've never met anyone more secular in his daily life. Given half a chance, these Xians would be standing in line to crucify Jesus for his teachings, the damn commie.

Dumbya just didn't understand his audience. You can't pick world leaders like you pick the participants at a town hall meeting and his ignorance of other cultures (and history, in general) is simply amazing.
