Harry Reid: GOP 'run by a talk show host'
Edited on Thu Aug-06-09 01:32 PM by cal04
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0809/25881.html

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid launched his harshest attack on the Republican Party in months, claiming the GOP is "being run by a talk show host."

Reid, armed with a patch of Astroturf, slammed Republicans for sponsoring town hall attacks on Democrats and accused the party of waging a barricade on Democratic efforts to pass health care reform legislation.

"I just want to show you what Astroturf really is," Reid said to laughter. "They're taking their cues from talk show hosts, internet rumor mongers, and insurance rackets."

"I just think, as I've said before, it's not often that you try to blow yourself up, but that's obviously what they're trying to do with all this vexatious stuff they're doing with these meetings, the birthers. It's a party being run by a talk show host," Reid said.

(snip)
"These guys don't care about you," Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin said of the town hall protesters. "They care about YouTube."

"We can spot a winger," Durbin said.

Democrats slam town-hall protests as 'phony'

He went on to suggest that Republicans are taking their cues from television talk-show host Glenn Beck of Fox News, who has encouraged the protests.

3. Hard to believe Harry was A Boxer
He's such an incredible pussy.

I wonder how we keep getting these milquetoast people, like Daschle as leaders???

I wish they'd take a little of the right-wing spine. One thing you can say for them, for those folks during the Bush years, they pushed the conversation, they created the debate, they used any and every tactic.

One would be saying "Republicans want people to remain sick and die, just so the rich friends that pay them bribes can keep earning 20 million a year." Seriously, they are using lies of this nature, and this is true, that 20,000 or so people die each year, because of no preventive care at all. By the time they get to the hospital, their conditions are often too advanced, whether it is cancer, or heart disease. Many folks can't afford prescriptions.

But they too are paid by the same people as Republicans, and as long as folks are bought and paid, we're going to be screwed, and corporate profits will continue to climb.

Like I said in an earlier post, we need to all just cancel insurance, and grow the numbers of the uninsured to 80-100 million. Then there hand will be forced, and the insurance companies will be massively weaked, where perhaps they won't be able to bribe them as well.

12. Sigh. Harry is a man of high and virtuous pinciples. Yet it is a shameful commentary...
that such qualities, like generosity of spirit toward others,
are not always what seems needed in the political arena where
sharp knives are so pervasively and callously wielded.

Yet a battlefield commander must sometimes subordinate such
personal views.

For it is one thing to follow the teachings of non-violence by
'turning the other cheek' to violence, and entirely another to require,
in time of war, everyone you represent to do the same.

This seems a source of frustration with Reid here on DU. But he is
selected by his peers and, setting aside my own frustration, I still have
difficulty saying they have made a clear mistake.

20. The Marquis of Queensbury rules are strong in him.
Like the one about not kicking someone when he's down. I believe he thinks his political opponents are, behind their ideologies, just and honorable men.

Me, I think otherwise. And I actually prefer kicking my enemies when they're down, thank you very much.

How embarrassing to have someone like Limpballs running your party. Those "power mongers" must feel pretty impotent.

We need "the package"--strong progressive, good person, and someone who presents America to the world in a positive fashion--this would include keeping the corporatist whore lobby at bay so that the world could see that we don't all worship the dollar.

14. I wish that would work, but I think we need to use the same tactics the corporations use, which is
to bombard people every day with messages that say: Liberal good. Right wing bad. Once we get things working for the people, we can propaganda people into actually learning why that's true!

16. Impotent? When they're able to block progressive legislation due to the deafening cacophony of
the hate choir Rush is preaching to? I don't see it.

19. Well, they get it up sometimes
But not always, and far less now than four years ago. So, maybe they are suffering from a little ED and not full impotency. Yet.

9. About time
Why does it take the Democrats days to respond to such criminal behavior? Gates gets arrested for doing nothing, but these not only get away with it, but the democrats don't say anything about it for days.

These wingnut idiots have given us a golden opportunity to portray them as the nutsacks that they are. The Dems need to keep linking the repukes to Taints, Rush and Beck. Maybe Malkin will be next.

If you're sitting in the Senate with 60 Dems, and the repukes have no leader, why is shit still not getting done?
