Now, I'm wanting to get a health care bill in place to make sure these people get all the mental healthcare they need.

Today's Republicans hold Teabagging Parties to protest higher taxes - just after they got the biggest tax cut in a decade.

Today's Republicans think Obama isn't a citizen - in spite of all the vetting RNC, McCain and Hillary would have done.

Today's Republicans support a Tammy Faye eyelash wearing, Russian immigrant, Israeli dentist mail order lawyer as their champion in the cause to prove Obama wasn't born here - even O'Reilly and Coulter think they're nuts

Today's Republicans constantly spout off about 'family values' - while hooking up with pages, frequent prostitutes, pick up men in airport bathrooms or maintain their South American mistresses in style. All while claiming they're God's Chosen

Today's Republicans make speeches on the floor with such ass-hatted talking points as the Federal Government wants to kill your Grandma. While they constantly yell about how incompetent "Government" is - do they ever realize that they are Government?

I'm sure there's a disease listed in the mental health profession that would explain such a disconnect from reality. They sure aren't the type of Republican my grandfather was.

3. There IS such a disease. It's called conservatism.
http://www.reason.com/news/show/34935.html

"According to Professor Altemeyer, right-wing authoritarians are cognitively rigid, aggressive, and intolerant. They are characterized by steadfast conformity to group norms, submission to higher status individuals, and aggression toward out-groups and unconventional group members. On the RWA Scale, subjects are asked to agree or disagree with statements like: "Some of the worst people in our country nowadays are those who do not respect our flag, our leaders and the normal way things are supposed to be done" and "There is absolutely nothing wrong with nudist camps." Guess which one RWAs tend to agree with?

Meyer-Emerick notes that high RWAs perceive the world as a significantly more dangerous place than those who score low. High RWAs are more submissive to government authority and indifferent to human rights. They also tend to be more hostile and more highly punitive toward criminals, and more racially and ethnically prejudiced—and religious!—to boot. In the United States, guess what? Republicans cluster at the high end of the RWA Scale whereas Democrats range across the scale."

6. I completely agree with that - but it still doesn't explain how so many
can be loud and protesting against things that are exactly opposite of what they claim to stand for. I never would have believed that so many people could be convinced to actively fight reality. I'm fine with people having a different opinion about how to do things or fix problems - even what the role of government should be.

But everytime lately that I think they can't out do themselves in the just plain crazy department lately, they manage to prove me wrong. Our Congresswoman is Virginia Foxx - and she is right up there at the top of the heap.

7. Interesting article
considering the venue in which it appears. I had always considered the Reason Foundation to be rather Libertarian. Good to see that they consider RW conservatism to be pathological, as we do.

5. The disconnect is so extreme...
that you will find town hall protesters showing up screaming about "Obamacare" "socialized medicine" and "guvmint run health care" are medicare recipients who also scream about "keep your hands off my medicare".

10. It is a frightening thought....
I keep thinking of those old clips of documentary footage showing the Germans standing up and yelling approval at the Nazis while the rest of the world suffered and burned. These people are not that much different.

If you told them that their medicare was a government program, they would either deny it, or feel a perfect entitlement to it anyway because of who they think they are.

It reminds me of Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols plotting, and succeeding, in blowing up the federal building in Oklahoma City after being the recipients of student loans, farm loans and any other government largesse they could scrape out of the system they wanted so badly to destroy.

12. And the same asshole that told me I was "UnAmerican, terrorist aiding" for
criticizing the POTUS while we were at war - is now criticizing this President while we're at war.

Fifteen minutes talking to some of my relatives sure feels like I've fallen through the looking glass
