Fox "News" is GLOATING over Durbin's statement that he is "open" to destroying the public option:
Edited on Sun Aug-09-09 11:39 PM by Faryn Balyncd

The headlines at Fox "News" read:

Plan in 'Serious Trouble'?
Top Democrat's admission that he's 'open' to slashing public option could mean health care bill cutback

No. 2 Senate Democrat 'Open' to Health Care Bill With No Public Option
The so-called public option...

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/08/09/senate-democrat-open-health-care-public-option/

We have a problem when OUR #2 Senate leader makes this kind of statement:

"It doesn't have to be a perfect bill," the Illinois Democrat said. "I support a public option, but, yes, I am open."

and lacks the understanding that we have ALREADY compromised too much, and that a bill without a public option for all Americans is nothing more than corporate welfare dressed up in the false rhetoric of "reform".

Durbin needs to hear from us that we won't stand for passing a BAD bill, that, contrary to his recent statements "success' is not passing a bill thast might be labeled "reform" but is actually counterproductive.

Durbin needs to understand that a bill with no public option, or one in which corporate interests succeed in completing its castration, will not receive our support, and must not and will not pass.

(If Durbin can't get this simple message, maybe there's a hob for him as a token "Democrat" at Fox "News".)

1. When Senator Durbin plays cards, does he hold them facing his competeitors?
Maybe a health care reform bill without the public option would be better than nothing, but that isn't something a senator who wants a public option should announce before there has even been a vote by the full Senate.

3. It's beginning to look like Durbin's poker playing is designed to fool US, not the GOP.

2. Did he think this was helpful? Please let us pass something, anything, to save face?

4. As more times goes on, the differences between the two parties become more hazy
Durbin and others know damn well what most Democrats want. They assume, and rightly so that we will NOT vote for republicans

However, that does not mean that they will necessarily get our vote either

From the Telecommunications act, the reversal of Glass Stegal, deregulation of the banking and commodities, to the IWR and Patriot Act, we have been played

6. Why wouldn't I vote for a Republican? . . .
If there's no so little difference between the two that my side is distinguished only by the flavor of the lies it tells me, why shouldn't I vote for the Republicans and take my despotism straight, without the base alloy of hypocrisy?

7. Because they are mostly likely worse. What is needed is people to challenge these
folks in Congress during the primaries. They are much too comfortable

Hell, another candidate running in the primaries would if nothing else keep everyone honest
