Life with single payer...
Edited on Mon Aug-10-09 04:17 PM by cynatnite
Doctors wouldn't have to worry about patients paying their bills...the government would pay it for them.
Hospitals wouldn't have to worry about patients paying their bills...the government would pay it for them.
In other words the government would pay all medical expenses.
The beaurocracy would be streamlined into one solid comprehensive system that makes sure health care is provided to all Americans with as little interference as possible between doctor and patient.

Americans wouldn't get off completely free. They'd have to pay, too...by way of taxes. They're not paying hundreds of dollars every month for a health insurance plan that barely works.

Speaking of insurance companies...

Oh, what insurance companies? They don't exist anymore.

*****

Okay, I'm back in the real world now. :(

1. That was a beautiful ride. Thanks for taking us along.
But yeah, it's depressing to come back to reality. :(

2. Insurance companies would still be around - they'd sell supplemental policies
Just like they do for Medicare now. And they would still make plenty of money selling those supplemental policies, they way they do now.

But think of all the bureaucracy and administrative costs that would be saved and would go directly toward patient care and cost savings!

3. We would still need insurance companies
for supplemental care and for elective procedures.

Didn't mean to burst your bubble though! :)

5. Small businesses would not have to worry...
...about how, or whether, to cover their employees.

Individuals would not have to remain tied to a job merely because that's where they happened to be employed when they were diagnosed with <insert health issue here>.

No one will lie awake nights wondering if they can keep eating, keep their home and still pay their medical bills.

No one will have to go without medical care for simple things that then escalate into major things.

One could go on...

It's really the right answer.
