Can we stop calling them "blue dogs?"

"Blue dogs" conjur up warm and fuzzy feelings. I'd like to pet that little puppy.... Innocent little thing... Isn't he cute?

These people are not blue dogs.

How about

Turncoats?
Obstructionists?
Traitors?
Hypocrites?
Assholes?
DINOs?

these people are literally standing in the way of millions of people getting access to health care when they have none now. to call them a "dog" would be a compliment they don't deserve.

29. I consider this (the public option) to be a defining issue for the democrats
Any Blue Dog Democrat who would vote in favor of a bill that has a strong public option I would consider to be a true Democrat, and can be forgiven for having to appeal to their conservative home base on less important votes. But any Blue Dog that votes *against* it I will consider to be nothing more than a Republican mole, who ran as a Democrat only to keep out the more progressive candidates.

garybeck's point is a brilliant, as usual. They've handed us an opening; we need to use it wisely. Maybe even hire some PR pros to do some focus groups, etc. (totally sarcastic but serious).
If we're overly snarky, it could actually be backfired against us.

We need the message to be un-sidetrackably, unmistakably clear.

If health payment reform goes down it would be a good time to fill the streets demanding an end to corporate person-hood and removing them from all electoral involvement. We could demand use of all public airwaves for 30 minutes per day for a 6 month election cycle as the cost for the right to use the frequencies the rest of the time.

55. Many of these "Blue Dogs" have been elected in states that would never
elect a liberal Democrat. They still vote with the Democrats most of the time, but they would not be re-elected if they had a very liberal voting record. They would more than likely be replaced with another centrist Democrat or a Republican. They truly do represent their constituents who are, for the most part, not as liberal as Democrats in other parts of the country.

I don't know a single person who does not want reform, but no less than 3/4 of them are for a public option and we all have let our reps know we do not want it.
And you do know that while 80% want reform, not even half of them are willing to pay for it, right? Can a public option work without taxpayer money? Are the millions and millions of the other half traitors?

70. Yes, a PUBLIC OPTION. And they're already paying for it, duh.

A new survey commissioned by the AARP asks respondents to what degree they support or oppose "Starting a new federal health insurance plan that individuals could purchase if they can't afford private plans offered to them" -- a public option, in other words. The results are interesting, though not necessarily surprising to those who have been closely following the debate.

All: 79 percent favor/18 percent oppose

72. I do not watch TV, so I may not be up to date on this mornings news
Are they now selling the public option plan as being a plan where you can choose the plan you want, public or private, and pay ONLY for the plan you choose? No higher taxes, ever, in order to support such a plan? No govt involvement at all if you choose private?
If yes, then I am willing to bet that the moderate Democrats will expect their reps to support it and I will start letting my own reps know I support such a plan.

If not, then the poll doesn't really address what I said: everybody wants reform, but not everybody is willing to pay for it. The poll should ask if people are willing to pay for two health plans.

75. so you'd rather waste your money on worthless "health insurance" to pad CEOs' wallets?
if I actually GOT something for my taxes, like HEALTH CARE--you know, the ability to go to the doctor whenever I need to without having to go into bankruptcy for it and no matter what my "preexisting condition" is--crap like that--of course I wouldn't mind paying "higher taxes." It would certainly be a lot cheaper and more economical than wasting it on health insurance.

You are repeating Faux News talking points and claiming them to be moderate Democratic. Bullshit my friend. No decent Democrat, liberal or moderate would deny 40 million Americans decent health care. EVEN IF IT RAISED OUR TAXES which it wont. You are ok that the health insurance industry is stealing $500 billion off the top.

80. No, I do not wish to be a part of a so-called public option
that does not offer one a true option. In fact, I would fully support such a plan. Hell, if 80% of the people really want a govt plan and are willing to pay for it, such as it is made to be on here, there should be no problem with making the plan a truly voluntary plan.

How about instead of acting like someone in the 2nd grade, you tell me why I don't know what I am talking about when I speak of my beliefs? Is it because you know what I believe better than I do? Or is it just that you know whats best for me better than I do?
Either way, you are wrong.

86. Why start a discussion when you admit you dont know what the statistic is?
Then to say that you dont know a single person that doesnt want reform. I say bullshit. Look at the republicans in Congress. Of course they will vote for a "reform" bill if it makes life better for their corporate masters. And I doubt you want reform.

80% of the public have stated they want a STRONG public option. So that makes your "half" as only 20% or less. Are you traitors? No, but you either are rich and dont need health insurance, you are comfortable with your health care and dont care about the millions that struggling and dying without decent health care or you are Joe the Stupid Plumber that doesnt know a good thing if it was to bite him on his butt.

Can a public option work without taxpayer money? Maybe and maybe not. Doesnt matter because your overall cost will be less. Any increase in taxes will be offset with the increased efficiency. $500 billion dollars a year is being skimmed off the top by for-profit pirates. That is a source for efficiency. Also, the cost of helping the poor is extremely high because it isnt preventative and it is via emergency rooms. Another source for efficiency.

Your fear of taxes exposes you for what you are.

89. Who said treason? Have you been drinking? I think the word was traitor.
The blue dogs are traitors to the Democratic Party which is to help those that need it the most. Blue dogs are really republicans and that is traitorous. Here's the deal, either you favor the corporations or you favor the public. republicans obviously favor the corporations and dont care who knows. Democrats favor the people. Blue Dogs pretend to favor the people but really favor the corporations like their republican brothers and sisters.

What's lower that a stinking republican??? A blue dog democrat.

68. I think it's time for the majority Dems to send them to obedience school
Edited on Thu Aug-27-09 11:50 AM by Cleita
instead of vice versa, which is what is happening now. The progressives need to teach them to sit, listen and obey commands. They are the dogs, not the masters by their own definition. I believe that is how LBJ got Medicare. He made his Blue Dogs and some Red Dogs obey with his carrot and stick approach. In this case it will take the other Congressional Dems to do this as Obama isn't channeling his inner LBJ.

85. Y'all do know about Blue Dog, n'est-ce pas?
George Rodrigue is the artist, a New Orleans icon of sorts, who's been painting Blue Dog for many years. In a recent article in the Times Picayune he says Blue Dog is bipartisan, willing to reach a paw across the aisle. Of course, right wing or left, the money is green. Poor guy; I'd hate to be saddled with that; Blue Dog, who really is kind of cute, is screwed.
