Here's a clip posted on DU (from yesterday's show I think) in which he careens off the deep end in the last 15 seconds of this 1:30 minute clip. He speaks of miracles associated with his mythical comeback. Difficult to believe without seeing:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=385&topic_id=360012&mesg_id=360012

Watching this is like seeing a terrible mistake in the dark past of the 20th century: the rise of a dictator, the opening of wars.

The entire clip is worth watching. It indicates how his God-complex fits into his personal narrative.

Watch out for this man.

1. I thought he had an hour long public psychotic episode each day on Faux News.
I know what you mean. He is going deeper and deeper off the the sane train.

He never imagined an advertiser mass exodus.

So you think he'll try becoming an evangelist in his next incarnation?

19. Well, he has his high profile defenders. Jim Cramer described
Beck as a nice man whose advertisers would return.
Fox News keeps the guy on the air.
There has to be some responsibility noted for the enablers.
Beck is crazy. But he's not going to voluntarily remove himself. And no one else has the grace to get rid of him. He's a carnival freak show that makes money.

7. I was never a regular listener to his radio hatefest ...

but I tuned in recently out of morbid curiosity to hear what he was rambling on about. I noticed that he had at least two other people there helping him to keep the discussion at hand going. It made me think he is having problems maintaining his concentration and that he needs help in that regard. Poor racist Glenn. I think it won't be much longer before he totally loses it and decides he wants to "spend more time with family", a euphemism for "I desperately need to get out of the public spotlight and get some R&R". If he keeps losing sponsors the way he has been losing them lately, the decision to leave will be made for him. :eyes:

Why doesn't he just do it?

He's lost it, he's scared, and he's lashing out... That is all.

I worked fro 7 years in mental hospitals (Columbus Stated, and Toledo Mental Hospital in Ohio).

These episodes (which can run for years) generally don't get better on their own. In fact, they tend to get only worse. He may soon begin to talk about having control of natural laws, or being immune to them ("I can walk through walls," as one patient told me). Or speak of secret societies and their ancient, evil wisdom. Etc.

Stay tuned.

(I wish it was just entertainment without the possibility to do such damage.)

31. I saw a clip last week that made me almost feel sorry for him
He was so clearly ill and in need of help that I wondered why his corporate masters don't stop exploiting his illness and get his to a doctor. It seems awfully low even for Fox to let this go on.

I dislike Glenn Beck as much as the next person, but I really wish people would stop throwing around mental illness as a perjorative.

18. I would with anyone but Beck. His mother and brother both killed themselves.
There is a history of mental illness in his family. I suffer from depression myself and have taken antidepressants for it. I truly think he has some mental issues.

25. He's a Mormon. So, he believes he's going to become a god.
As a religious person, I know there are those who call me "delusional", so I try to be respectful toward those whose faith seems wacky to me. But Mormonism is where I draw the line. They really are wacky. Doesn't give me the right to be unkind to them, but there is nothing even vaguely rational about believing you're protected by magic underwear and will get to run your own little universe after you die.

Apparently, Beck really believes that stuff.

30. Delusions of grandeur . . . one of the manic-depressive, depressive states characteristics.
I really expect him to go beyond normal functioning soon.

(I have nothing against the mentally ill or handicapped. I worked with them for seven years. Their plight haunted me then and still does.)

I am guessing that he got a memo today and that he was warned that if the advertisers don't come back another memo would be coming.

Edited on Thu Aug-27-09 12:47 PM by Parker CA
he was lying to himself or to others. Immediately after this statement he pauses and looks down, the only downward glace during the 1:30 clip, a clear sign of shame, because he knows he's still doing it now, lying every day to his audience only for personal financial gain.

This man is selling himself for fortune and he's clearly disgusted with himself. I don't think he's quite on the brink of a mental breakdown, although I never watch his show and am only basing that comment on the posted clip, but he clearly harbors deep-rooted issues about how he feels toward his role as the 'disinformer' and seems to be leaning very heavily upon the crutch of piety in an attempt to reconcile his faults and personal shortcomings.
